| China has been encouraging private education theses years,and many foreign schools have been founded which have proved to be successful.As for these schools,how to maintain their outstanding features determines their future development.Given that school-based curriculum development plays a strategic role in those schools’ sustainable development,this research takes Chengdu S Foreign Languages School as a case so as to find out about the problems the English teachers face while developing school-based curricula and come up with some solutions.This research expects to provide the other schools with some reference as to how to involve their teachers in developing school-based curricula.Various ways have been adopted to carry out this research,such as document analysis,surveys,interviews and data analysis.According to the research,the problems are rooted in the teachers themselves and the outer aspects.As for the teachers,they lack awareness of school-based curriculum development and relevant knowledge and skills,and team spirit.What’s more,there’re limited resources available for them to do so and the lack of relevant regulations and policies also hinder their participation in school-based curriculum development.As for the problems mentioned above,the research has come up with some solutions.Firstly,the English teachers should break the old traditions to embrace the new task,learn about school-based curriculum development and also equip themselves with relevant knowledge and skills.They’re supposed to collaborate with other teachers,the students,the parents and even the community,and most importantly,they’re expected to pursue lifelong learning.Secondly,the education departments concerned should provide sufficient backup in terms of policies and technologies.Thirdly,universities and scientific research institutes should also offer some help in the form of theoretical education and practical instructions.Finally,the school should empower the teachers in order for them to enjoy reasonable freedom while developing school-based curricula.Furthermore,the school should dedicate itself to establishing a democratic and open management system and create an atmosphere where the teachers can get involved,communicate and collaborate.Plus,the school can prepare the teachers for school-based curriculum development via school-based training,which has proved to be a most effective way.Additionally,the school can help the teachers perfect themselves by encouraging them to acquire higher degrees or professional titles.Since Chengdu S Foreign Languages School is a private school,it’s beneficial for it to give more human care to the teachers and strengthen their sense of belonging,which will hopefully unite the teachers and inspire them to develop school-based curricula through joint efforts. |
