The source text is excerpted from Dean Burnett's book Idiot Brain-What Your Head Is Really Up To.The language in this book is relatively simple,and the vivid metaphor gives people a better understanding of their own brain and how it works.By translating the book,the translator aims at give a scientific explanation for people about their brain's occasional chaos and confusion in daily life.The translator has searched from the Internet and library collections,and found no published Chinese translation up till now.The translator selects two chapters from the source text,which amounts to sixteen thousand words.Firstly,The source text belongs to the works of science and technology,and its language style and wording are really distinctive.Especially some phrases with quotation marks,for which their meaning are different from the original ones.The translator analyzing the author's other books in order to grab the author's writing style.Secondly,there are a large amount of terminology in the book,such as proper nouns,abbreviations,and idioms.The translator collects the relevant background information and parallel text,which helps to translate this work more precisely.Thirdly,there are plenty of simple sentences and sentences with no subject as well as some long difficult sentences.The translator adopts methods such as sentence reconstruction,refraining discourses and word formation,which enables the translation close to the source text as possible.In the process of translating,the translator realized the difficulties of science text translation.The translator should not only remember the translation techniques on books but also do more practice.Meanwhile,the translator expects to provide some practical cases obtained during the translating process for the scientific translating with same genre in the future.
