This is a Chinese-English translation report on The lassic of Tea.As the earliest tea monograph in the world,The Classic of Tea embodies the richness of Chinese traditional culture, especially Chinese tea culture. Therefore,it is significant to introduce it to readers who want to have a deep understanding of China and Chinese tea culture. This report mainly discusses the translation of culture-loaded words in The Classic of Tea.The report is divided into four chapters. The first chapter involves the background and objectives of this translation practice,a brief account of the author and original text, and introduction to previous translated versions. The second chapter introduces culture-loaded words in The Classic of Tea,including the definition and classification of culture-loaded words, main difficulties of translation, and relevant materials which can be consulted. The third chapter elaborates on the translation strategies and methods of cultural-loaded words. On one hand,in order to render the culture-loaded words accurately and explicitly, the translator should not only refer to historical documents and treaties, but also add necessary annotations to provide more information. On the other hand,in order to retain the language style and original flavor of the text as well as make the translation natural and fluent to readers,a combined strategy of foreignization and domestication is applied in this translation practice. The main translation methods adopted are literal translation, literal translation with annotation, transliteration with annotation, free translation and amplification. The last chapter is about major findings and limitations of this report.
