Review of the Classic of Tea is a monograph on Chinese tea culture,written by Wu Juenong.It is based on the correction,review and further supplement and perfection to Lu Yu's The Classic of Tea in Tang Dynasty.Moreover,it covers the origin of Chinese tea,tea-manufacturing methods,arts of tea-brewing,tea pharmacology and health care functions and other aspects of culture.This report gives a general description about the translations of the Chinese tea culture and the cultural connotation of Review of the Classic of Tea,then makes an English translation and study on tea culture-loaded words involved in the book.The report analyzes the cultural connotation of tea from three aspects:names of different tea types,descriptions of tea cake's surface condition,and the technical terms for manufacturing process of tea.Accordingly,skopos theory is applied to the translation practice to explore some instructive ways by which tea culture-loaded words can be translated in a faithful and well-accepted manner,aiming at achieving a successful communication in target language culture.Based on the translation practice and the particularity of Chinese tea culture connotation,the report,guided by the principles of skopos theory,mainly explores three major translation strategies to Chinese tea culture,they are literal translation,free translation and compensation translation.The report also explores their application in the English translation of Review of the Classic of Tea.Focusing on their application in the translating work,the report discusses the ways of selecting a proper translating method in accordance with the purpose of culture translation and target readers' understanding and acceptance,aiming at showing the material and spiritual cultural connotation carried of Chinese tea,and facilitating a smooth dissemination and communication of our national culture to western countries.
