A longitudinal study of Chinese opera posters and their design from ancient to modern times is conducted to trace the development of Chinese opera posters and examine the positive role and artistic value of opera poster design in the dissemination of traditional Chinese opera.A cross-sectional comparison of contemporary opera posters with different design styles, including music festivals with opera symbols and festival posters, along with spatial association with traditional Japanese and Korean opera posters,is made to summarize six methods for designing contemporary opera posters, namely “ink and wash”,“Chinese characters”,“facial makeup in opera”,“photography”,"illustration" and "pop".Examples of countdown posters, dynamic posters,H5 promotion pages and opera derivatives are also used to illustrate the diverse and cross-border design characteristics of opera poster development.Today,it is more necessary for opera poster design to adopt “Westernized Chinese style”,combining the cultural quintessence of traditional Chinese opera with the thinking and technology of Western modern design, breaking through the old patterns of opera poster design, and drawing on Internet dissemination to attract young people's attention.
