Choosing Chapters 5-6 of The Future of Translation Technology: Towards a World without Babel(hereinafter referred to as The Future of Translation Technology)as source text, adopting Newmark's communicative translation theory as the theoretical basis, this report attempts to explore the translation strategies of informative text with some specific and typical instances of E-C translation. The Future of Translation Technology, written in English by Chan Sin-wai,professor of Translation Department of Chinese University of Hong Kong, was published by Routledge Press,UK,2017.This book is an essential reading material for researchers of translation and computer linguistics as well as other related scholars. It is also an introductory guide for those who want to study translation systematically. This book analyzes the development of translation technology respectively from the perspective of history, concept, function and theory over the past 40 years, and predicts the future of translation technology. Finally,it comes to the conclusion that the Tower of Babel will eventually not exist, and mankind will live in a world without language barrier.Chapter 5 puts forward a theoretical framework for computer-aided translation studies, and Chapter 6 is about the prediction and prospect of the future of translation technology. This paper consists of five parts. The first part introduces the background of the source text. The second part describes some information of the text and the original author. The third part gives a full account of the translation process, including pre-translation preparation, translation and modification process. The fourth part is the core part of the paper,in which the author expounds the key and difficult problems, and then analyses the selected translations from the lexical and sentence levels on the basis of communicative translation theory. The fifth part is the summary of this report. The source text involves a large number of professional terms and proper nouns, and some long and difficult sentences. The translator tries to adopt translation techniques such as free translation, division, addition and conversion to deal with the source text with Newmark's communicative translation theory, hoping that the reading experience of targeted language readers would be the same as source language readers.
