This is a report on the translation of My Name Is Lucy Barton,a novel by Elizabeth Strout, which has not been translated into Chinese yet.It gives analysis and summary to the translation of the first half of My Name Is Lucy Barton. This novel uses the First Person to recall her experience of Lucy Barton with a flashback narrative and is characterized by strong rhythm, dramatic re-enactments and delicate description. The content of this translation project mainly narrates that owing to appendicitis,Lucy had to go into hospital for operation, where she met her mother she hadn't seen for years, and reminisced about their past experiences. On the basis of Descriptive Translation Theory, the translator gives a detailed analysis on the translation method and skills for solving the difficulties with the guidance of Translation Norms Theory. This report consists of four chapters.Chapter One begins with a description of the translation task.Chapter Two illustrates the course of the translation process.Chapter Three analyzes the translation skills used in the translation and the approaches to deal with difficult sentences.Chapter Four summarizes what the translator have learnt from the translation.
