A Report On The Chinese Translation Of Delta Wedding (Chapter 3) Under The Guidance Of The Stylistic Markers Theory

Style is the soul of a literary work and it reflects the writer's artistic characteristics and creative style.Reproducing the literary style and conveying the original content are of equal importance in literary translation.Eudora Welty is regarded as one of the most outstanding novelists in the United States.Her works reflect the small-town Mississippi life of ordinary southern men and women with precision and charm.Her first novel,Delta Wedding,revealing Welty's simple and subtle style with concise and vivid language,is chosen as the original text of this translation practice,and this report is based on the translation practice of the third chapter of Delta Wedding.Guided by stylistic markers theory put forward by Liu Miqing,this report aims at exploring the application of the three strategies of corresponding,recasting and decolouring in reproducing the style of Welty by analyzing the translation of stylistic markers including lexical markers,syntactic markers,registerial markers and markers of figures of speech in Welty's novel Delta Wedding.This translation report is composed of five chapters.Chapter one is the introduction,which offers a brief account of the writer and the novel as well as the significance and the structure of the report.Chapter two gives a brief description of the translation process.Chapter three gives a brief introduction to the stylistic markers theory,including formal markers and three approaches to translating the stylistic markers.Chapter four presents some case studies in an attempt to illustrate applicability of stylistic markers theory in literary translation.Chapter five gives a conclusion of the report.
