An Ideological Study On Youxi Chuandeng’s Buddhism-nature Includes Good And Evil

Youxi Chuandeng is the important person who revitalized the Tiantai Sect.The Theory of Good and Evil of Buddha-Nature is the important book with the function of pasting with the furture,when the Buddhist development trend declined.This thesis is based on the book to analysis how to enrich the Buddha-nature Includes Good and Evil.This thesis is divided into five main parts.In the first part,it mainly describes the life of Chuandeng and summarizes the main activities of reviving the Tiantian SectIn the second part,it mainly analyzes the historical background and origin of the thought of Chuandeng.In the Middle and Late Ming Dynasty,buddhism was in the position of being both limited and protected.Because of the criticism of Cheng Zhu Neo-Confucianism that dominated and the existence of sense The End of Buddhist Development in the mind of monks,many monks,which had a sense of responsibility,began to actively seek the road to revival.Then the revival of Tiantai Sect became a mission for Chuandeng.In addition,from that Master Zhiyi created the idea of"Buddha-nature Includes Good and Evil",Jingxi Zhanran’s "The Ruthless Can Enlighten",the "principle and evil" of Simingzhili,Huxihuaize’s "Buddha-Nature of Evil",to the "Nature of Good and Evil" put by Chuangdeng,it helps to solve the contradictions between the various religions,which actually is the explanation and application for the Tiantai’s idea on "Buddha-nature Includes Good and Evil".In the third part,it summarizes Chuandeng’s comment on Confucian theory of Human Nature.Chuandeng believes that regarding the good and evil of human nature,there has not reached a consensus opinion in the ancient times and modern times.Therefore,it makes an analysis of the theory of human nature of Confucianism,which points out that Confucianism’s speech is the Buddhism’s emotions,the union is a loss.The reason why Chuandeng pointed out the defects of the Confucian theory of human nature is to pave the way for himself to promote the "Nature of Good and Evil".In the fourth part,this thesis discusses how Chuandeng constructed the "Theory of Good and Evil" that he promoted.For this part,Chuandneg first used the Thought of "The Supra-mundane Teaching of The Five Periods " to analyze the "Theory of Good and Evil" of Tiantai.He believes that only the "Theory of Good and Evil" is the most complete,and he put the theory to be the highest Buddhist doctrine,trying to make it a universality.Then,Chuandeng viewed from the perspective of essence-function based on the Buddha-Nature includes dharmadhatu,Theory and divides it into eight categories to detailed discuss its purpose.In the fifth part,this thesis makes a comparative analysis of the theory of Chuandeng with the Confucian theory of human nature.The theory of Buddhism refers to the possibility that everyone can become a Buddha without saying that good or eveil nature.While the Confucian theory on human nature deals with the moral cultivation in the aspect of ethics.There has no basis for comparison between these two theories.However,since the Buddhism was introduced into China,the Confucianism,Buddhism,and Taoism has interacted and influenced with each other.Then the inherent nature of Buddhism gradually has an ethical meaning,and the Confucian theory of human mind has an intrinsic meaning.In addition,Buddhism has also changed from the pursuit of birth to the pursuit of rules and law in the world.This offers the possibility of a comparison between the two.As for the comparing between Chuandeng’s Buddhism-nature Includes Good and Evil and Confucian theory of human nature,the author sums it up as the differences of three aspects:the rational nature and emotional nature,the theory cultivation and moral cultivation,and the good and evil in this" world out of this world" and "the secular good and evi"l.In fact,it can be seen that Chuandeng intends to highlight the superiority of the "Theory of Good and Eviil" on the Tiantai in the comparison.Finally,in the conclusion part,this thesis makes a brief review on the theory of Inherent Good and Evil.The author thinks that Chuandeng widely quoted the ethics and integrates the thoughts of Tiantai Sect with other religious schools.It not only enriches the connotation of Tiantai Sect,revitalizes the Tiantai Sect to a certain extent,but reflects the decline of Buddhism and the narrow ideological space of the Tiantai.In addition,the discussion on the relationship between "nature" and "cultivate" by Chuandeng shows that the good and evil nature are not divided and they often appear after "cultivate".It is in fact looking for a proof for "cultivate" and intended to seek a road to become a Buddha for all beings in the end of life.
