"Conceptual Metaphor" put forward by Lakoff and Johnson in 1980,whose development has expanded new range of studies on metaphor. The study on metaphor has turned into a part of cognitive linguistics that is in sharp contrast to the traditional rhetoric and is widely acknowledged as the most important branch in academic field at present, which is inferior by comparison.Emotion, which plays an important role in daily life,is human's real experience of objective world.People used to express abstract emotions metaphorically in order to describe them vividly.Up to now, there are many studies on emotion metaphor from several aspects from home and abroad, but few systematic study are made on all kinds of emotion metaphor in long discourse from the perspective of cognitive linguistics. The Golden Cangue,is favored by Eileen Chang, who is a famous female writer in China. Many emotion metaphors in the novel are useful for understanding characters and plots. The study firstly summarizes studies on metaphor and emotion metaphor, the translation of metaphor and emotion metaphor, and then studies the translation of emotion metaphors(mainly from source domain of weather, liquid, temperature, color, orientation and body parts)in The Golden Cangue.By identifying and collecting the related emotion metaphors from Chang's self-translated novel, the author made a comprehensive study on emotion metaphors from the view of cognitive metaphor. The study aims to explore and answer the following questions:1.What are the differences between the emotions of different source domains in her Chinese source text and in her self-translated English text?2.How does the writer,Eileen Chang, deal with the emotion metaphors in her source Chinese text and in her self-translated text? And what are the influential factors? The following discoveries are made in the study:1.The writer expresses different emotions in metaphorical terms, which employ different source domains such as weather, liquid, temperature, color, orientation and body parts, with an aim to make emotion expressed vividly.2.Due to the similarities of human' s experience towards objective world, there are some common emotion metaphors between Chinese language and English language.Translating these metaphors is a complicated process influenced by many factors. Therefore, different translation strategies need to be used to transfer emotion images in the source text vividly into the target text.3.Through the understanding of different cognitive domains of emotion metaphors in the source text and the analysis of translation strategies,it shows that Eileen Chang takes the following different translation strategies in her self-translated text according to various situations:maintaining the images and translating directly;deleting the imagines;combining literal translation and free translation. The differences of emotion metaphors in both Chinese and English, translator's subjectivity are considered in the translation process.
