This paper takes the adaptations of The Golden Cangue as the object of study.Under the feminist perspective,it links the image space,female space and the spatial elements in Eileen Chang’s novels,explores the differences in each adaptation’s representation of female desire and feminine consciousness in terms of content and form,explores the changes of Eileen Chang’s female consciousness in the adaptations,and penetrates the structure of gender ideology of the works,in order to consider the history,present and future of women.The introductory reviews studies on film and television adaptations and feminist studies related to Eileen Chang;it details the main reasons of choosing The Golden Cangue as the research object:first,Qichao has feminist value,second,The Golden Cangue has been adapted in various forms,involving films,television dramas,stage plays and Peking operas,but there are few existing research results;it also specifies the research methods.The first chapter compares the similarities and differences between The Golden Cangue and Rouge of The North to explore Eileen Chang’s motivation for rewriting and the changes in her feminine consciousness,and to serve as an important reference for the four adaptations.From the spatial theory of Lefebvre and Bourdieu’s theory of male domination,the paper argues that Eileen Chang’s later works sketch a picture of the female figure,reflecting the loss of women in the triple space of body,spirit and society.The second chapter analyzes the adaptation focus of the four works,focusing on their expressions of erotic desire in female body space and spiritual space,and discusses their respective feminine consciousness and gender positions.On this basis,the third chapter examines the different effects of camera and stage in representing the female view.It also tries to explore the art forms suitable for the representation of Eileen Chang’s works.The last part tries to explore the possibilities of gender,geographical space and feminist association.In summary,the film adaptation and the television drama adaptation deepen patriarchal domination and reinforce the male gaze.The stage play adaptation and the Peking Opera adaptation focus on the expression of female desire and are more feminine in content and form.However,all versions fail to represent the structural plight of women.But there is room for the interpretation of Eileen Chang’s works in opera form.In addition,from the perspective of geographical marginality and historical exile experience,it seems that the adaptations from Hong Kong,Taiwan and mainland of China can constitute a "Tale of Two Cities" under the feminist perspective,which is yet to be further explored.
