National Corps System is the military system that the Chinese National government established during the Anti-Japanese War,in which facilitates the process of military conscription, military training, and national defence.National Corps System as a regional military system,is an important strategic act of the National government in response to the modern-time wars.Although Zhejiang suffered from the disadvantage of being one of the earliest provinces that confronted the Anti-Japanese War,Zhejiang National Corps still successfully achieved relatively noticeable contributions to the war. There were three reasons for this success:first, the long-term unresolved confrontation between Chinese and Japanese armies along the Qian Tang River;second, the strong industrial basis in prewar Zhejiang;thirdly,Huang Shaohong's new policy resulted in the formation of a united military force in Zhejiang, partly because of the relatively pleasant cooperation between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party.Current research has demonstrated from different aspects the historical contributions of National Corps,as well as the role it played during the Anti-Japanese war. However, few case analysis has been done to study any specific representative regional corps. In addition, current research has been focusing on clarifying the specific rules and regulations of National Corps, but has rarely addressed the sociological influences of the system. Thus, the current research conducts a case analysis on Zhejiang National Corps(a relatively successful regional corps). We intend to examine the sociological influences of national corps under the "Xinxian Country System",specifically how national corps,as one of the most important war-time policies of the National government, impact the society. We will analyze its limitations due to the war time environment,as well as the inert problems of the Kuomintang Party, and conclude the reasons of how the national corps system deviates from its original plans during the implementation. The first chapter of this paper introduced the background of the establishment of Zhejiang National Corps,as well as the organizational structure of the corps. These introductions revealed that the purpose of establishing national corps is to facilitate military conscription and military training. The second and third chapters mainly focuses on introducing the establishment procedures, personnel movements, and important events of Zhejiang National Corps,in order to emphasize the prominent local institutional innovation of Zhejiang National Corps. The fourth chapter uses filed documents of Yunhe National Corps(a county within Zhejiang),describes the everyday soldier training activities within the corps. This description is based on the following documents:a "National Corps Deputy Head Monthly Briefing" from the first six months of 1944;a list of equipments count from every year and a Yunhe National Corps shooting score records. In conclusion,National Corps failed to achieve its planned impact due to the structural imperfection of the organization, the flawed design of the system itself and the unneglectable pressure imposed by the Anti-Japanese war. Finally,we examined the impact on National Corps system of the specific era.Because of the gradual decline in the motivation to cooperate against the Japanese, the Kuomintang and the Communist Party began to fight around the issue of National Corps. This situation caused the attitudinal changes in the Communist Party towards the National Corps, from cooperation in the beginning to confrontation, and finally towards assimilation. In addition,as a component of the "Xinxian County System",the design of National Corps System perfectly matched the basic structure of the "Xinxian County System"."Xinxian County System" brought paradigm shift upon traditional Chinese countryside, with National Corp.being the epicenter of such change. This resulted in a violent clash between Chinese conservatism and modern civilization. Therefore,National Corp was essentially an attempt for National Government to foster "quantified citizens" utilizing nationalism in order to defend against Japanese invaders.
