From the perspective of national-local,central-frontier,the poetry of Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps(the Corps poetry)has experienced a development process of moving toward the country, returning to itself, facing the world, and being free and active since the 1980 s.To be specific,in the early 1980 s,the Corps poets emerged in the western frontier as the "pioneers of new frontier poetry",and established the literary image of the Corps poetry in the whole country by virtue of their distinctive regional writing.Yang Mu and Zhang Deyi came to the center of the literary world.Poems such as Yang Shu,Li Yu,Yang Yu,Donghong,Shi He,Gao Jionghao and Bai Hua exhibited their artistic styles, adding lyricism, euphemism, lightheartness and trenchancy to the masculine, handsome and noble main tone of the new frontier poems. They achieved a balance of art and history between the literary tradition of the "Seventeen Years",the individual’s bottom life experience and the social psychology of the new era,and showed a clear subject consciousness. In the middle and late 1980 s,a group of young Corps poets(He Haitao,Gu Jun,Li Guangwu,Qin Anjiang,Peng Jingyu,Wang Feng, etc.)grew up and further developed and enriched the western quality of the Corps poetry under the banner of "Western Poetry",which can also be regarded as the turning and sublimation of the new frontier poetry.By the 1990 s,the Corps poetry had entered the period of returning to its own,and the Corps poets no longer had the collective name marked by aesthetic style, and showed a pluralistic creation trend. On the basis of inheriting the spirit of the west, they introspectively reflected on the expression of "the west" in past poems, keenly perceived the changes brought by the modernization process to the urban and rural life of the Corps, and viewed the history of the Corps and their personal growth experience in history with more rational and profound eyes.In the face of the challenge of the complicated ecology of the poetry circle and the marginalization of the status of poetry, the Corps poets showed their considerable uniqueness in the whole poetry circle of China by insisting on the ideal of realism poetry and the creative attitude of hard work and deep exploration. At the beginning of the new century, the Corps poets faced the world and put forward the poetic theory conception of "surrealism" in Chinese poetry.Qin Anjiang,Peng Jingyu,Li Guangwu and other poets used lofty frontier spirit and Chinese and foreign poetry traditions to fight against the "degradation" of contemporary poetry, and explored the fusion of realistic creation principle, romantic poetry style and modernism poetry technique with considerable artistic self-consciousness,which was also the re-embodiment of the poetics pursuit of the Corps poets. At the same time, the Corps poetry entered a period of more free and active creation, and the campus poetry group represented by the "fire poetry society" of Shihezi University appeared and gradually prospered. The attitude of the "walking" frontier travelers in their poems can be regarded as the ceaselessly continuous western spirit of the Corps poetry.Their pioneering poetry experiment was connected with the “new poetry tide” in the mainland in a "misplaced" way, reflecting the multiple relationship between the poets and the times. An overview of the development of the Corps poetry in the past decades shows that the Corps poets’ establishment of their own subjects, their exploration of the relationship between themselves and the western land, and their conscious pursuit of sublime poetry aesthetics and art are the main lines running through them. The most important poetic events in the development of the Corps poetry include the rise of the "new frontier poetry" in the early 1980 s and the participation of the Corps poets in it,the "Green Wind Poetry Conference" in 1983,the "100th anniversary" of the "Green Wind Poetry" publication in 1995,and the great discussion on "surrealism" poetry from 2003 to 2006.In 2007,Yang Zhao and other poets launched the performance art of "the Gap between Life and Death",which will provide strong evidence for the interactive relationship between the Corps poetry and the national poetry circle. |
