ObjectiveTo investigate the effects of the needle sticking method on patients with occipital neuralgia.MethodsThis study collected into the standard of 66 patients with occipital neuralgia, randomly divided into two groups, namely the needle sticking method group(treatment group)33cases,and common needle group(control group)33 cases.1 case was discontinued in the treatment group and the control group during the course of treatment.64 patients completed the study,32 in the treatment group and 32 in the control group. The control group was treated with the needle sticking method, the selected acupoints include: fengchi, naokong, ashi(all affected side). The control group was treated with common needle, and the selected acupoints were: fengchi, taiyang, shuaigu, xuanlu, waiguan, xiaxi(all affected side). Each group is one day for one time, continued for 7 times.Visual analogue scale(VAS)scores of the two groups were recorded at the baseline and after the first acupuncture treatment,2 hours and 24 hours after the first acupuncture, and after the treatment.MASS scale values were recorded after the first acupuncture. The values of the six-point behavioral scale(BRS-6)the baseline and after treatment were recorded. The VAS and brs-6 values were observed during the follow-up visit 2weeks after the end of treatment, and intra-group and inter-group comparisons were made to observe the efficacy of needle sticking method in the treatment of occipital neuralgia.Results1 Baseline information shows that:There was no significant difference in gender, age, course of disease, visual simulation score and six-point behavioral score between the two groups(P>0.05).The results indicating that the test data were comparable.2 Clinical efficacy:The total effective rate of the treatment group was 96.9% and the control group was 87.5%.The curative effect of the treatment group was significantly better than that of the control group, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).3 Immediate analgesic effect :The two groups prior treatment VAS score than instant,2hours,24 hours VAS score comparison were decreased(P < 0.05),suggesting that the twogroups of treatment for the first time can effectively alleviate the occipital neuralgia. The immediate VAS score of the treatment group was higher than that of the 2-hour,and the24-hour VAS score was higher than that of the 2-hour,which was similar to the immediate VAS score. This suggests that the pain first subsided and then recurred, but was still significantly less than prior treatment, and that the duration of pain relief was maintained for24 hours. In the control group, the immediate VAS score was higher than 2 hours, and the24-hour VAS score was higher than 2 hours, indicating that pain also recurred within 24 hours. The 24-hour VAS score was lower than the immediate score, indicating that although the pain recurred within 24 hours and it was still better than after acupuncture. The immediate,2-hour,and 24-hour VAS scores of the two groups were compared between groups, and the VAS scores of the treatment group were lower than those of the control group(P<0.05).It is suggested that the needle sticking method is superior to conventional acupuncture in terms of immediate analgesia.4 Short-term and long-term effects:Two groups after the treatment of VAS score lower than prior treatment, indicating that both groups can alleviate the pain symptoms of the patients. The VAS score in the treatment group after treatment was comparable to that at follow-up,indicating that the pain in the treatment group did not worsen or relapse.Control group were followed up for VAS score lower than after treatment, indicating that extend the control over time the pain eased.Comparison between the two groups after treatment and follow-up VAS scores, the treatment group was lower than the control group, indicating that the delayed needle method has a better short-term treatment effect and can more effectively reduce recurrence. After treatment and two-week follow-up,BRS-6 scores in both groups were lower than before treatment(P <0.05),suggesting that both treatment methods can reduce the impact of pain on patients' living conditions. The post-treatment and two-week follow-up BRS-6 scores of the needle sticking method group were lower than those of the conventional acupuncture group(P<0.05),indicating that the needle sticking method group was superior to conventional acupuncture in reducing the impact of pain on patients' lives.5 In terms of deqi sensation, fill in the MASS scale when the patient first acupuncture, and measure the strongest feeling of acupuncture and the intensity of the feeling. The resultsshowed that the acupuncture intensity of the needle sticking method group was stronger than that of conventional acupuncture group. The rank correlation analysis shows that acupuncture intensity is related to the immediate VAS score. This suggests that the stronger the acupuncture intensity, the better the effect on pain relief.ConclusionThe immediate,short-term and long-term effects of the needle sticking method in treating occipital neuralgia are exact.Acupuncture intensity might be a key factor influencing the efficacy of acupuncture in treating occipital neuralgia.
