Objective To discuss the clinicopathologic features and analyze the prognosis of metaplastic breast cancer(MBC).Methods We retrospectively analyzed 26 MBC patients of the First Affiliatted Hospital of Chongqing Medical University from 2014 to 2018 and reviewed the related literature. Results The median age of the patients was 49 years old and the mean diameter of breast mass was(3.9±1.8)cm.A total of 23 cases expressed negative estrogen receptor(ER),progesterone receptor(PR)and human epidermal growth factor receptor-2(Her-2),accounting for 88.5%(23/26)of all cases. In total,25 cases accepted surgery,5 were treated with neoadjuvant chemotherapy before surgery.Among them,4 patients got partial response(PR),another one got progressive disease(PD).Besides,16 cases accepted postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy and 7 cases of radiotherapy. No significant difference was found in the median survival time between patients receiving postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy and those without postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy(15.0 month vs 17.0month,P=0.865).The median follow-up time was 16.5 months, one patientoccurred local recurrence two months after surgery,6 cases suffered distant metastasis senven to thirty-six months later.Two-year overall survival rate and disease-free survival rate were 69.5% and 72.7%,respectively.But no significant difference was found in local recurrence, distant metastasis and mortality among different pathological types of MBC(P>0.05).Conclusion MBC is a rare molecular typing of triple negative breast cancer, which is characterized by high aggressiveness and poor prognosis. In addition to surgery, chemotherapy is the main systemic treatment, but the efficacy is still controversial.
