Objectives:According to the cross-cultural adaption procedures, the English version of Breast Cancer Awareness Measure(BCAM)was localized, and its reliability and validity were tested. The aim of this study was to develop a breast cancer awareness instrument that is suitable for China's cultural and medical background and provide reference and basis for the assessment of Chinese women's breast cancer knowledge and screening barriers as well as the formulation of interventions.Methods:1.After obtaining the authorization from the author of BCAM,the researcher team adopted Brislin bidirectional translation method to conduct pre-translation as well as back translation.Combined with the results of qualitative interview and experts' consultation, researchers conducted cultural adaptation, content validity and pilot survey to form the preliminary version of Chinese version of BCAM(C-BCAM)after revision.2.By means of convenient sampling,a total of 360 eligible community women in Changchun,Jilin Province were invited to participate in a formal survey between January and May 2019.Data was entered into Epidata. The researchers checked and imported the data into SPSS 25.0 and Amos 23.0 software for analysis. The frequency and composition ratio were used to describe the socio-demographic information of the participants. And the reliability and validity of the C-BCAM were tested through the item analysis, structure validity composed of exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis, internal consistency and re-test reliability.Results:1.Based on the results of qualitative interview and expert consultation,BCAM was added 11 new items, deleted 13 items and merged 2 items. After the pilot survey, the researcher revised the wording of the scale to form a preliminary version of C-BCAM of 30 items. The item level of content validity index(I-CVI)of the preliminary version of C-BCAM was 0.86 ~ 1.00,while the scale level of content validity index(S-CVI)was 0.92.2.Based on the results of item analysis and exploratory factor analysis,26 items of C-BCAM were determined. When the number of factors was limited to three, factors of knowledge of breast cancer symptom, barriers to seeking medical help and breast cancer risk factors were extracted. The total variance of the cumulative interpretation of the three factors is 51.56%.The results of confirmatory factor analysis showed that the three-factor model has good data fitness and good structure validity. The Cronbach's ? of each domain of C-BCAM was 0.88,0.84,and 0.94,respectively;the Cronbach's ? of the C-BCAM was 0.90 and the test-retest reliability was 0.72.Conclusions:1.Based on the procedures of cross-cultural adaption, this study revised the items of the original scale in combination with qualitative interviews to solve the cultural differences between the east and the west, increase the applicability and accuracy of the scale, and provide a basis for developing an instrument applicable to the cultural background and medical characteristics of China. The preliminary version of the C-BCAM has good content validity.2.Through the reliability and validity test,it was determined that C-BCAM includes knowledge of breast cancer symptom, barriers to seeking medical help and breast cancer risk factors, with a total of 26 items, which has good reliability and validity. It is an effective instrument for evaluating Chinese women's breast cancer awareness, providing tool supports and theoretical guidance for future research on breast cancer awareness.
