ObjectiveCollect breast cancer epidemiological baseline information on the Han and Mongolian women in Ordos,Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region for the long-term follow-up cohort. To provide scientific date for breast cancer screening, analyse the breast cancer screening performance among Han and Mongolian women on the condition of basic medical institutions.Investigate the awareness of breast cancer screening, and explore the relevant factors to provide the reference for further publicity and education.MethodsUsing breast clinical examination and three-dimensional ultrasound for breast cancer screening, further examination was done for abnormal women(BI-RADS 0,4,5),and biopsy as the golden standard.Calculate the positive rate of breast cancer screening and the detection rate of breast cancer among the Han and Mongolian women.Study the performance of breast cancer screening.Describe the cognition level of breast cancer screening and analyse the differences between the Han and Mongolian women of participating in breast cancer screening.Face to face investigation questionnaires are used to inquiry of woman by trained investigators, including demographic information, breast cancer screening awareness and relevant factors that may affect the awareness and willingness level.ResultsResults of breast cancer screening:21400 Han and 2511 Mongolian subject were enrolled in this study. The average ages of Han and Mongolian women were 45.10±7.05 and 45.69±6.67 years old.The proportions of menarche age>18 years old, first childbirth age>30 years old, never pregnant, dysmenorrhea, menopause, and history of breast disease in the Han were lower than that in Mongolian women(all P<0.001).Compared with Mongolian women, clinical breast examination revealed that the breast abnormality proportion of the Han women was higher(P<0.001).And results with ultrasound showed the proportions of the breast ductal limitations expansion, size of the mass>5 cm,posterior acoustic enhancement, and calcification were lower(all P<0.05).The proportions of BIRADS grade at 0/4/5 in Han women were lower(P=0.021,P=0.258).Mammography results turned out Han women's dense breast was higher(P<0.001).The total rate of breast cancer detection was 83.64/104,including 79.44/10 in Han women and 119.47/104 in Mongolian women respectively. The cognitive outcomes of breast cancer screening:11162(88.2%)Han women and 1495(11.8%)Mongolian women were enrolled in the survey, with the average ages of 45.4±7.1 and 45.4±6.8 years old.The education level(high school and above)of Han women was lower than that of Mongolian women(P<0.001).The main way to delivery information on breast cancer screening in Han and Mongolian women was from their family members or friends, however significant difference was found in other ways(P<0.001).The proportions of never attending screening in the Han and Mongolian women were 4640(41.7%)and 683(45.9%)respectively(P=0.001).The breast self-examination rate of Han women were higher than that of Mongolian(P<0.001).According to Logistic regression analysis, the cognitive level of women with high education level and breast disease history was higher(all P<0.001).ConclusionsBreast cancer screening in Han and Mongolian women has performance to some extent. The cognitive level of breast cancer screening in Han women is better than in the Mongolian, however, the overall level are low.It is necessary to strengthen the propaganda and education, and to encourage women to actively participate in breast cancer screening.
