As the first western medicine hospital in Shanghai,Chinese Hospital established by the London Missionary Missionary(William Lockhart)in 1844.This institution often regarded as the starting point of public health construction in Shanghai. From the perspective of the patient groups admitted to Chinese Hospital in different periods,we can find that this hospital tends to consolidate the cooperation with the potential donors by emphasizing a certain type of patients they received. In the first stage, this institution did not emphasize the identity of the Chinese patients who are admitted; In the second stage, government staff, defamation and prisoners deported by government agencies became the mainly medical service group of Chinese Hospital; In the third stage, this hospital signed cooperation agreements with social organizations in Shanghai. It is related to the operation strategy of this institution indifferent periods. From a medical institution that relied on the personal relationship of the founders, this hospital gradually built a single-line cooperation relationship with the Shanghai Municipal Council, and then Chinese Hospital formed a medical partnership network with variety social organizations in Shanghai. This dissertation believes that while the hospital consumes medical resources for the diagnosis and treatment of patients, the social relationship of the patient group also constitutes the medical resources that the hospital can use.In order to adapt to the changes of the social environment, the patients' social relationship becomes a weight that can be used in cooperation or confrontation with political power. The combination of western medicine with social relations prove that it is truly integrated into Chinese urban life.
