Chronic periodontitis is the most common type of periodontitis.It is the leading cause of tooth loss in adults.Its treatment goal is to remove plaque and calculus to control inflammation.Traditional basic treatment has certain limitations.The diode laser has become a hot topic recently because of its advantages of strong tissue penetration,stable output power,removal of lesions,reduction of surgical bleeding,and stimulation of periodontal tissue regeneration.At present,the research results of semiconductor laser for the treatment of chronic periodontitis are different,and its exact efficacy is controversial.Therefore,this study aims to systematically evaluate the clinical efficacy of semiconductor laser-assisted SRP for chronic periodontitis through meta analysis,In order to provide a reference for clinical application.Objective: To systematically evaluate the clinical efficacy of diode laser in the treatment of chronic periodontitis by meta-analysis.Methods: Medline?Cochrane Library?OVID?PubMed?Web of Science?Chinese Biomedical Literature Database?VIP?Wanfang and CNKI database from inception to April,2019 were searched by computerfor the literatures about the treatment of diode laser assisted periodontal basic treatment for chronic periodontitis.After independently screening and extracting the literature,the two researchers evaluated the quality of the included literature,and then used RevMan 5.3 software to carry out Meta-analysis of the acquired data.There is no statistical heterogeneity or less heterogeneity among the studies,the fixed effect model is used for analysis;on the contrary,the random effect model is used for analysis.Results: A total of 245 patients with chronic periodontitis were included in 10 articles(4 in Chinese and 6 in English).The results of Meta-analysis showed,compared with pure periodontal basic treatment,the periodontal probing depth(PPD)reduction and bleeding index(BI)reduction of the patients with chronic periodontitis in diode laser group at 1month and 3 months after follow-up were more significant,however,the clinical attachment loss(CAL)gain of the patients in diode laser group at3 months after follow-up was not significant;[PPD:1 month: MD = 0.47,95% CI 0.79~0.15,P = 0.004;3 months: MD = 0.34,95% CI(0.62,0.07),P = 0.01;BI:1 months: MD=-0.2,95%CI(-0.34,-0.06),P=0.006;3 months:MD=-0.18,95%CI(-0.33,-0.03),P=0.02;CAL:1 month: MD=-0.17,95%CI(-0.30,-0.04),P=0.01].Conclusion: Current evidence shows that diode laser-assisted periodontal basic therapy can achieve better clinical efficacy in short-termclinical observation of chronic periodontitis.
