Objective: To evaluate the effect of probiotics on irritable bowel syndrome. Methods: The randomized clinical trials observing the effects of probiotics on irritable bowel syndrome were searched in PubMed,CBM,The Cochrane Library,EMbase,CNKI,and Wanfang databases. The search period was from the establishment of the database to October 2019.Research selection, data extraction, and quality assessment of the researches were completed by 2 researchers independently.Meta analysis was carried out by RevMan 5.3.Results: 12 randomized clinical studies were finally selected, including 1783 patients.Meta-analysis showed that the reduction of symptom scores and anxiety scores in the probiotic group were more than those in the placebo group(P <0.05).There were no significant difference in the changes of quality of life score and depression score between the 2groups(P>0.05).Conclusion: Probiotics treatment of IBS has the clinical effect of improving symptoms and relieving anxiety. However, more large-sample and high-quality randomized controlled studies are needed for further verification.
