Objective:In this study,Yangzangrunchang decoction was designed to treat the functional constipation in the elderly with Qi and Yin deficiency to objectively evaluate its effectiveness and safety, further explore the optimal treatment scheme of traditional Chinese medicine for this disease, and provide clinical reference for the treatment of functional constipation in the elderly. Methods:A randomized controlled method was performed in this study, and 88 patients were selected in accordance with the inclusion criteria and were randomly divided into the experimental group and the control group according to the random digital form, with 44 cases in each group. The experimental group was treated with Yangzangrunchang decoction, the control group was given Lactulose. The period of treatment was 4weeks.The changes of total symptom scores,TCM syndrome evaluation, average number of complete spontaneous bowel movements(CSBM)per week, and the patient assessment of constipation symptom scale scores(PAC-SYM)before and after treatment were recorded, and statistical analysis was performed to evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of Yangzangrunchang decoction.Results:1.Total 88 patients were included in the study.two cases fell out of the experimental group and four cases fell out of the control group.Finally,82 patients finished the clinical observation, with the falling rate of 6.8%.2.Comparison of single clinical symptom scores: After 4 weeks of treatment,The difference of the score of single clinical symptom scores between the two groups was statistically significant(P<0.01).The curative effect of the treatment group was significantly better than that of the control group in terms of stool consistency, the frequency of defecation and the feeling of bowel movements(P<0.05).In terms of prolonging defecation interval, dyschesia and abdominal distension, the two groups showed similar improvement, with no statistically significant difference(P>0.05).3.Comparison of overall symptom score: Both groups can improve the clinical symptoms of patients to some extent after treatment, while the overall symptom score of the experimental group after treatment is lower than that of the control group, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).4.Comparison of the overall efficacy of TCM symptoms: after 4 weeks of treatment, the effective rate of the experimental group was 88.1%,which was better than that of the control group(72.5%),and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).5.Comparison of average number of complete spontaneous bowel movements(CSBM)per week: in both groups, the average number of CSBM were on the increase than before, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).6.Comparison of PAC-SYM scale scores: after 4 weeks of treatment, the PAC-SYM scores of the experimental group was lower than that of the control group, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).7.Comparison of safety and recurrence rate: There were no obvious adverse events in the treatment of the two groups.Follow-up 4 weeks after treatment, the recurrence rate of the experimental group was 14.3%,which was significantly lower than the control group with a recurrence rate of 35%,and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusion:That Yangzangrunchang decoction is safe and effective in the treatment of functional constipation in the elderly with Qi and Yin deficiency,is not only to ease symptoms but also to control the recurrence. It is worthy of further clinical research and application.
