Objective: In this study, patients with coronary heart disease(CHD)and chronic periodontitis(CP)were collected and treated with non-surgical periodontal treatment. The maximal thickness of carotid atherosclerosis plaque(MTCAP),blood lipids, periodontal clinical indexes,Electrocardiogram(ECG)and symptoms of coronary heart disease were assessed and biochemical parameters like Interleukin-6(IL-6),Interleukin-17(IL-17),tumor necrosis factor-alpha(TNF-?)and high sensitive C-reactive protein(hs-CRP)in serum count: at baseline and 12 weeks. To further clarify the possibility of related inflammatory factors in the relationship between moderate to severe CP and coronary heart disease, and to explore the significance of basic periodontal therapy in improving the condition of patients with coronary heart disease with moderate to severe CP,so as to provide theoretical support for clinical prevention and treatment of periodontitis and coronary heart disease.Methods:1.40 known CHD with moderate to severe CP patients(male:28,female:12,age from 40 to 65)were randomly allocated to control group(n=20)(intracardiac routine treatment and no periodontal therapy)and treatment group(n=20)(intracardiac routine treatment and periodontal therapy in the form of scaling and root planning/ SRP).2.The baseline and 12-week serum of the subjects were collected, and the levels of inflammatory factors were measured.MTCAP were measured in the Functional Department of Hebei Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the blood lipids were detected in the Laboratory Department of Hebei Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Results: After 12 weeks, the levels of triglyceride(TG),low density lipoprotein(LDL),serum IL-6,IL-17,TNF-?,and hs-CRP in the treatment group were significantly lower than baseline,high-density lipoprotein(HDL)levels increased, and Seattle Angina Questionnaire(SAQ)scores increased(P <0.05),MTCAP was slightly lower than the baseline level(P>0.05).The levels of TG,LDL,and serum IL-6,IL-17,TNF-?,and hs-CRP in the treatment group were significantly different from those in the control group(P <0.05).There was no significant difference in MTCAP between the treatment group and the control group(P>0.05).Conclusions:1.Non-surgical periodontal therapy can reduce the levels of IL-6,IL-17,hs-CRP,TNF-? in serum of patients with CHD and moderate to severe CP and improve the body's inflammatory status.2.Non-surgical periodontal therapy can improve the levels of TG,LDL in patients with CHD and moderate to severe CP,indicating that non-surgical periodontal therapy is necessary for patients with CHD and moderate to severe CP.This conclusion can provide a basis for developing a reasonable comprehensive treatment plan for patients with CHD.
