Objective: To explore the correlation between serum GFAP and NSE concentrations and cognitive impairment in Patients with epilepsy.Methods:50 Patients with epilepsy and 30 healthy subjects were tested by the Montreal Cognitive Function Scale(Mo CA),and serum GFAP and NSE levels were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA).Result:1.The scores of Mo CA,visual space / executive function, naming, memory, attention, and language ability were significantly lower in the epilepsy group than in the healthy control group(P <0.05).2.Serum GFAP and NSE levels were significantly higher in patients with epilepsy than in the control group(P <0.01).3.Serum GFAP concentration in patients with epilepsy is negatively correlated with Mo CA total score(P <0.01),visual space / exercise ability(P <0.05),memory(P <0.05),attention(P <0.05),and language(P <0.05).4.Serum NSE concentration in patients with epilepsy is negatively correlated with visual space / exercise ability(P <0.05)and attention(P <0.05).5.Single factor analysis: Mo CA scores of patients with epilepsy are positively correlated with different education levels(P <0.01).The higher the education level, the higher the Mo CA score;it is related to EEG epilepsy-like abnormal discharge, frequency of attacks,The course of disease and the number of AEDs were negatively correlated(P<0.01).6.Multiple regression analysis: Mo CA score was positively correlated with education level(P <0.05);it was negatively correlated with EEG epileptiform abnormal discharge(P <0.05);It was not related to the frequency of attacks, course of disease, and number of AEDs(P> 0.05).Conclusion:1.Cognitive dysfunction in Patients with epilepsy is mainly manifested in visual space / executive ability, naming, memory, attention, language ability, etc.,and is related to education level,epilepsy-like abnormal discharge of EEG.2.Elevated serum GFAP and NSE levels in patients with epilepsy are associated with multiple cognitive declines, and their increased levels may be involved in the pathogenesis of cognitive impairment in epilepsy patients.
