Objective:To observe and compare the curative efficacy between acupuncture treatment group and control group of moderate and severe dry eye.Method:In this study,51 patients from Mianyang hospital of TCM who met the inclusion criteria were randomly divided into two groups:the experimental group(25 cases)and the control group(26 cases). All subjects were informed of eye care and related education when they were enrolled.Experimental group(syndrome differentiation acupuncture+Sodium Hyaluronate Eye Drops)25 cases and control group(Sodium Hyaluronate Eye Drops)26 cases. All the subjects received eye health education when they were enrolled and strictly implemented during the period of the study. In the control group,Sodium Hyaluronate Eye Drops were used;in the experimental group,Sodium Hyaluronate Eye Drops were used+syndrome differentiation acupuncture(8 main points+2-3 syndrome differentiation points). The study period was 3 courses. The changes of OSDI score,BUT,SIT,FL,and TMH were observed after the treatment.Result:(1)Symptom score and severity of the disease:the symptom score of the experimental group after intervention was significantly lower than that before treatment(P<0.05);the symptom score of the control group after intervention was significantly lower, the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).After treatment, the total reduction rate of moderate and severe patients in the experimental group was 64%,and that of the control group was 42.3%.The difference of the severity of the disease before and after treatment was statistically significant(P<0.05).(2)SIT:After intervention, the SIT in the experimental group was significantly higher than that before treatment(P<0.05);after intervention, the SIT in the control group was significantly higher(P<0.05).(3)BUT?TMH?FL grade:after intervention,BUT,TMH and FL grade of experimental group was significantly higher than that before treatment(P<0.05);After intervention, above indicators of the control group was higher than before treatment, but the level of FL was not significantly improved(P>0.05)(4)The therapeutic effects:There were 25 patients(50 eyes)in the experimental group. After treatment,17(34%)cases were effective,29(58%)cases were effective and 4(8%)cases were ineffective. The total effective rate was 92%.In the control group, there were 26 patients(52 eyes). After treatment, there were 0(0%),34(65.4%)and 18(34.6%)cases with significant effect, and the total effective rate was 65.4%.There was a significant difference between experimental group and control group(P<0.05).(5)Safety analysis:There were 3 cases(12%)of adverse events in experimental group, and 0 case(0%)in the control group. There was no significant difference in safety between the two groups(P>0.05).Conclusion::1?The therapeutic effect of acupuncture based on syndrome differentiation is definite.Compared with the two groups, there were more effective patients in the acupuncture syndrome differentiation combined with artificial tears group, and the total effective rate was significantly better than that in the artificial tears group, which indicated that the acupuncture syndrome differentiation was better than the artificial tears alone in the treatment of moderate and severe dry eye.2?Acupuncture can significantly improve the symptoms,SIT,BUT,FL and TMH of patients with moderate to severe dry eye disease, and has an advantage over the artificial tear group in improving BUT,FL and TMH.3?Acupuncture syndrome differentiation is an invasive operation, but it still has high safety.
