ObjectiveTo observe the effect of cognitive behavior therapy on negative emotion and medication compliance in school-aged children with epilepsy.MethodThis study was an experimental research.68 school-aged children with epilepsy were selected in Wuxi people's hospital as objects. They were divided into control group(34 cases)and intervention group(34 cases)according to the time of admission. The children of control group received conventional health education, while the children in intervention group received the cognitive behavior therapy by the research team. Before intervention and at the end of the third month of intervention, children were evaluated with the SCARED,DSRSC and medication adherence questionnaire, the recent three months seizure frequency of children were also collected. The statistical methods included descriptive statistical analysis,t-test,Wilcoxon sign rank sum test, etc.ResultTotal 7 cases were lost in the course of intervention. In the control group,1 case lost contact,1 case refused and 2 cases were excluded due to transferred to another hospital. In the intervention group,1 case transferred to another hospital,2 cases were excluded due to withdrawal. The missing rate was 10.29%.The control group(30 children)and intervention group(31 children)completed the entire research.1.Cognitive behavioral therapy can alleviate anxiety and depressive of school-aged children with epilepsy, and its effect is better than that of routine health education. There was no significant difference in SCARED and DSRSC scores between the two groups in baseline assessment before intervention(P>0.05).After the intervention, the scores about SCARED of the intervention group was lower than that of the control group. There was statistical significance between the two groups(t = 3.86,P(27)0.001).After the intervention, the scores about DSRSC of the intervention group was lower than that of the control group, and there was statistical significance between the two groups(t = 2.395,P = 0.02).2.Cognitive behavioral therapy can improve the medication compliance of school-aged children with epilepsy. There was no significant difference in the scores of medication compliance between the two groups in baseline assessment before intervention(P>0.05).After the intervention, the score of medication compliance in the intervention group was higher than that in the control group. There was statistical significance between the two groups(Z =-3.033,P = 0.002).It suggested that cognitive behavioral therapy could improve the medication compliance of children with epilepsy.3.There was no significant difference in the seizure frequency between the two groups in the recent three months before and after intervention(P>0.05).Conclusion1.Cognitive behavioral therapy can improve the emotional problems of school-aged children with epilepsy to a certain extent, and alleviate their negative emotions of anxiety and depression.2.Cognitive behavioral therapy is helpful to improve the medication compliance of school-aged children with epilepsy, but it has not proved that the cognitive behavioral therapy can make a difference on seizure frequency in the recent three months of epileptic children.
