Objective: 1.To understand the feel and learning experience of undergraduate nursing students in open laboratory.2.To explore the contents of electronic portfolio for undergraduate nursing student in open laboratory.3.To explore the effect of electronic portfolio in improving nursing students' theoretical knowledge and nursing skill level and students' self-directed learning ability.Methods: Mixed research method was adopted.The first stage using qualitative research methods and purposive sampling,Grade 2016 undergraduate nursing students were select in semi-structured interviews to explore their learning experience in the nursing open laboratory and collect their suggestions for improving the quality of laboratory.The second stage was an experimental study,in which Grade 2017 undergraduate nursing students were selected by group sampling method and randomly divided into the experimental group and the control group.In the experimental group,nursing students applied the formative assessment based on the electronic portfolio evaluation in the open laboratory skill training,while in the control group,the traditional class formative evaluation method was adopted which was taught by the same teachers.Before the experiment,both groups were distributed the baseline data questionnaire composed of the general data questionnaire and the Chinese version of the self-directed learning ability assessment scale to collect the baseline data of the 2 groups.After the implementation,both groups were given the Chinese version of the self-directed learning ability assessment scale to compare the self-directed learning ability level.The experimental group was issued homemade electronic portfolio effect questionnaire.Results: 1.Nursing students have a positive attitude towards the open laboratory and put forward suggestions about reservation and post-practice tracking evaluation.2.The electronic portfolio assessment helps to improve the theoretical and skills abilities of undergraduate nursing students.The theoretical and operational results of the experimental group were higher than those of the control group(P<0.05).3.The electronic portfolio assessment helps to improve the self-directed learning ability.After the experiment,94 Chinese version of the self-directed learning ability assessment scale was distributed,94 effective questionnaires were recovered from 2 group,the effective recovery rate of 100%.The scores of all dimensions and the total scores of the experimental group were higher than those of the control group after the intervention(P<0.05).The scores of the experimental group were significantly higher than those before the implementation.4.The experimental group had a positive attitude toward the electronic portfolio assessment and 83%-96% of nursing students satisfied about the implementation.They found that electronic portfolio assessment was conductive to timely detection of weak knowledge and help to improve self-management and learning efficiency.Conclusions: 1.The advantages of open laboratory mode are prominent.Nursing students can use spare time to make an appointment for laboratory practice and improve the utilization of laboratory resources.2.The formative assessment based on the electronic portfolio can effectively improve the nursing students theoretical and skills results.The pre-practice evaluation can reflect their theoretical knowledge and the post-practice evaluation can investigate their using ability.The stage of self-evaluation and reflection help them review their learning methods and seek effective methods to learn.3.The formative assessment based on the electronic portfolio can effectively promote self-directed learning ability,which is reflected in that the evaluation method inspires the nursing students' learning consciousness,makes them clear their learning needs,maintains their learning motivation throughout the learning process,selects corresponding learning strategies.4.The formative assessment based on the electronic portfolio has achieved certain results in the application of open laboratory,and nursing students have a high satisfaction with this evaluation method,which is worth popularizing in the open laboratory skill training.
