Background According to the latest data,as the fifth most common cancer in the world, with the third highest death rate, the number of new cases and deaths of gastric cancer has exceeded 40% in China every year.In recent years, despite the continuous improvement of surgical techniques and other treatments, the 5-year survival rate of patients is still low, which is related to the difficulty in early diagnosis of gastric cancer, the high degree of malignancy and the strong invasiveness of gastric cancer cells. Therefore, the discovery of more specific and sensitive biomarkers is needed to further study the molecular mechanism of gastric cancer and provide reasonable treatment, which has great clinical significance for the early diagnosis and prognosis guidance of gastric cancer patients. Objective To investigate the expression of transcription factor BACH1 in gastric cancer and its relationship with clinicopathological features and prognosis. Methods Gastric cancer microarray containing samples of 98 cases of gastric cancer with clinicopathological features and follow-up information was used to detect the expression of BACH1 by immunohistochemical method and the relationship between the expression of BACH1 and the clinicopathological features and prognosis of gastric cancer patients were analyzed. Results The positive expression rate of BACH1 in gastric cancer tissues(44.9%)was higher than that in adjacent normal tissues(25.6%)(P<0.05),which was closely correlated with the pathological grade,T stage, lymph node metastasis and TNM stage of tumor(all P<0.05).K-M survival analysis showed that patients with high the expression of BACH1 had a worse prognosis(P<0.05).COX survival analysis showed that the expression of BACH1,lymph node metastasis, distant metastasis and TNM stage were predictors of poor prognosis for gastric cancer(all P<0.05),and the expression of BACH1(P=0.028)and distant metastasis(P=0.001)were independent risk factors for the prognosis of gastric cancer patients. Conclusions The positive rate of high expression of BACH1 in gastric cancer tissues was higher than that in adjacent normal tissues, and its expression was significantly correlated with clinicopathological characteristics. The prognosis of patients with high expression of BACH1 was significantly worse than that of patients with low expression. The abnormal expression of BACH1 is closely related to the occurrence and development of gastric cancer, and it may be a potential biomarker for the prognosis of gastric cancer patients.
