In recent years, there are more and more reports about maternal depression in China.Postnatal depression is gradually known by the public, and has become a hot issue in the field of psychological research. This paper focuses on the problem of maternal depression. On the basis of literature review,it explores the influence of social support on maternal depression, and analyzes and tests the mediator role of self-esteem in the process of social support affecting maternal depression.Based on the results of the empirical research, according to the knowledge and methods of psychology, the corresponding intervention suggestions are put forward. There are two main hypotheses in this study.First, there is a significant correlation between social support,self-esteem and maternal depression.Among them, social support is positively correlated with self-esteem,negatively correlated with maternal depression, and self-esteem is negatively correlated with maternal depression.Second, social support affects maternal depression through self-esteem,which plays a mediator role between social support and maternal depression.Using paper-based social support scale,Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale,Edinburgh Postpartum Depression Scale and other questionnaires,as well as life satisfaction and marriage happiness items, the researchers collected data of 152 pregnant women in Xiantao City,Yichang City and Wuhan City in July 2019.Later,397 pregnant women were collected using the "Wen Juan Xing" platform.A total of 549 questionnaires were collected on-and off-line,of which 482 were valid, accounting for 87.79%of the total.Through data analysis,we found that:(1)Social support,self-esteem and maternal depression were correlated;(2)Social support affects maternal depression through self-esteem,which plays a mediator role;(3)There was a significant difference in the degree of depression between perinatal and non-perinatal pregnant or delivery women;(4)The degree of depression of pregnant and delivery women was negatively correlated with their life satisfaction and marriage happiness. The application of the conclusion of the study reveals that the purpose of reducing the level of maternal depression and improving their life satisfaction and marriage happiness can be achieved by improving social support and self-esteem.According to the results of the investigation and the application of the enlightenment and the knowledge and methods of psychology, the researcher conducted individual interviews with a non-perinatal pregnant woman,a perinatal pregnant woman and a non-perinatal delivery woman, and put forward corresponding psychological interventions to prevent and control depression for the four groups:the non-perinatal pregnant women, the perinatal pregnant women, the perinatal delivery women and the non-perinatal delivery women.
