Cheng Dan An(1899-1957)is a famous acupuncturist in China.In order to inherit and disseminate acupuncture and moxibustion,he founded the Chinese acupuncture and moxibustion research association and wrote acupuncture and moxibustion textbooks,which had a profound impact on the development of acupuncture and moxibustion in modern times.Previous studies,to a certain extent,have investigated the education of traditional Chinese medicine by Mr.Cheng Dan An.Although they more or less involve the discussion on the innovation of acupuncture and moxibustion apparatus by Mr.Cheng Dan An,the achievements of comprehensive and systematic research on the innovation of acupuncture and moxibustion apparatus by Mr.Cheng Dan An are still lacking results.The purpose of this paper is to through the literature analysis and visiting academic inheritor,collect and sort the acupuncture and moxibustion apparatus by Mr.Cheng Dan An,study innovative acupuncture and moxibustion apparatus?and innovation background,process,molding and application,in order to clarify Mr.Cheng Dan An acupuncture equipment innovation and the specific content of the thought,discussing Mr.Cheng Dan An Instruments inovation evolution of "positive innovation".Further enrich the connotation of Mr.Cheng Dan An's academic thoughts on acupuncture and moxibustion,analyze the influence of its innovation on modern and contemporary acupuncture and moxibustion apparatus,and provide reference for the reform of modern acupuncture and moxibustion apparatus.In this study,the background of the innovation of acupuncture and moxibustion apparatus of Cheng Dan An is briefly reviewed,and the whole process of the innovation of acupuncture and moxibustion apparatus of Cheng Dan An starting from running a school in Suxi and studying in Japan.From the point of view of the innovation of acupuncture and moxibustion apparatus in different historical periods,the specific contents and ideas of the innovation of acupuncture and moxibustion apparatus were clarified.In general,during his schooling in Suzhou,Mr.Cheng Dan An mainly innovated the traditional acupuncture instruments,improved the miniature needle,and thought about the design and material of the needle.During his study in Japan,he investigated the development of Japanese acupuncture and moxibustion,exchanged with Japanese acupuncture and moxibustion practitioners to exchange views on Chinese and Japanese acupuncture and moxibustion instruments,and considered the reasons for the change of Japanese acupuncture and moxibustion instruments.After his return from Japan trip,he introduced Japanese acupuncture and moxibustion apparatus,introduced stainless steel,tried stainless steel acupuncture and moxibustion needles,enriched and improved acupuncture and moxibustion diagnosis and treatment supplies,and explored and improved acupuncture and moxibustion apparatus on the basis of Japanese acupuncture and moxibustion apparatus and developed new needles.He actively translated Japanese acupuncture books,promoted intradermal needles and created deep-pressed needles.In 1954,he went to Nanjing to serve as the President of Jiangsu provincial school of traditional Chinese medicine.In preparation for the Nanjing traditional Chinese medicine expo,the "Nine Needles" were trial-produced to explore the use of infrared ray and heat instead of moxibustion.This article collects and analyses Mr.Cheng Dan An's acupuncture instrument innovation related needle,acupuncture,therapeutic apparatus,teaching equipment,medical equipment and other utensils(acupuncture doctor outcalls case?acupuncture clinic art placard)of a total of 50 kinds of related information,and according to different times,instruments for innovation from the innovation time,form,use and operation specification,and clinical application and so on,analyzed the main characteristics of the innovation instruments.During his schooling in Suzhou,he advocated iron needles and promoted the use of miniature needles.He also improved the traditional formula of "Taiyi Magic Needle" and explored a softer formula of "Nianying Medicine Note".During his study in Japan,he exchanged acupuncture and moxibustion instruments with his Japanese colleagues and brought back some Japanese acupuncture and moxibustion instruments,which are delicate and portable.After returning from Japan trip,Mr.Cheng Dan An tried stainless steel acupuncture needles.Based on the improvement of Japanese acupuncture instruments and combining China's national conditions,he explored the way of"sinicized" acupuncture instruments,tried to improve the system of acupuncture supplies and formulated the standards of acupuncture instruments.After the founding of the People's Republic of China,the acupuncture and moxibustion apparatus innovated by Mr.Cheng Dan An was basically extended to use,especially laying a foundation for the establishment of the standard of acupuncture and moxibustion apparatus.Before he left for Nanjing,he handed over the research and development of acupuncture apparatus to his son-in-law Mei Huanci.Mr.Cheng Dan An with the help from the original Chinese acupuncture club member Wang Shizhen,Suzhou "Hua Er Fang" and other eight Suzhou acupuncture needle workshop integrated into Suzhou medical supplies clubs,MeiHuanCi led all the old experts like QiGan carried forward his cause and forge ahead into the future,continue with inheriting Mr.Cheng Dan An's acupuncture and moxibustion instrument innovation thought.After the reorganization of medical supplies factory in Suzhou,"Hua Tuo" acupuncture needle and "Bian Que" Nianying Medicine Note has been developed,and became well-known brands soon.At the same time,on the basis of the whole process of the innovation of acupuncture and moxibustion apparatus,it is found that the improvement of productivity and the level of instrument manufacturing,as well as the self-innovation and promotion of Japanese acupuncture and moxibustion medicine by Mr.Cheng Dan An are the important factors influencing the innovation of acupuncture and moxibustion apparatus.After Qing dynasty,European and American style?advanced science and technology from the west entered China,which brought about the improvement of productivity level and instrument manufacturing level.Influenced by the trend of western learning,the Chinese medical circle began to use new technologies to innovate the instruments of traditional Chinese medicine.At the same time,in the process of innovation of traditional appliances did not abandon the design of traditional appliances,respect the classic,only to update advanced materials and production technology.Cheng Dan An went to Japan to study.He was greatly inspired by the Japanese acupuncture and moxibustion apparatus,which combined with modern scientific theories and paid more attention to clinical practicality.However,on the basis of Japanese acupuncture and moxibustion instruments,Mr.Chen Dan An reflected on the differences between Chinese and Japanese national conditions,and innovated Japanese acupuncture and moxibustion instruments from the perspective of Chinese reality,so as to achieve "positive innovation".Based on the above research on the background,process and influencing factors of the innovation of acupuncture and moxibustion apparatus of Cheng Dan An,this paper discusses how Cheng Dan An made "upright innovation" in the process of the innovation of acupuncture and moxibustion apparatus,and then the influence on the evolution of the innovation of modern acupuncture and moxibustion apparatus.
