Objective By exploring the application and effect of KAP Health Education Model in elderly patients with hypertension to provide reference for community health education of elderly patients with hypertension. Methods From November 2017 to September 2018,98 elderly patients with hypertension who were managed by chronic disease management in Hutai Community Health Service Center,Chengxi District,Xining City were selected as the study subjects. They were randomly divided into the control group(n=46)and the KAP group(n=52).The control group used the conventional teaching method and the KAP group used the “Knowledg?Attitude?Practice/Bechavior” model. The intervention was performed for 6 months. The intervention effects of the elderly hypertensive patients before and after the intervention were compared. The intervention effects included knowledge scores, attitudes and belief scores, compliance behavior scores and blood pressure control. Results 1.During the intervention, the control group was completed 43 cases and the KAP group was completed 47 cases. The demographic data of the two groups before intervention were not statistically significant(P>0.05).2.Knowledge:The total score of hypertension knowledge in the KAP group(21.19±1.95)was significantly higher than that in the control group(18.63±2.50).The difference is statistically significant(P<0.05).The scores of six factors including hypertension diagnosis criteria, risk factors, symptom knowledge, treatment knowledge, hazard knowledge and health knowledge were all improved to different degrees.Compared with the control group, the differences is statistically significant(P<0.05).3.Attitudes and beliefs: The KAP group's hypertension attitude and belief scores(80.47±10.71)were significantly higher than the control group(67.09±8.33).The“lifestyle factors” were not different between the two groups(P>0.05).The scores of attitude and belief in “constrained treatment factor”,“medication treatment factor” and “treatment disorder factor” were higher than those in the control group. The difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).4.Behavior: The scores of hypertension Behavior in the KAP group(21.38±3.04)were lower than those in the control group(25.63±4.47).The “lifestyle factor” was not statistically significant in the two groups(P >0.05).The scores and total scores of “intention”,“attitude”,“responsibility”,“smoking” and “drug treatment” were lower than those in the control group. The differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).5.Systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure were significantly lower in elderly hypertensive patients than before intervention. The difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusion KAP model can improve the related knowledge of hypertension in elderly hypertensive patients. It can enhance patients' attitudes and beliefs in controlling hypertension and improve patient compliance behavior.
