In rural areas,as the population of the elderly suffering from chronic diseases continues to rise, the incidence of depression among the elderly also increases, and the mental health problems of the elderly group are faced with serious challenges.Depression mainly comes from four aspects.First, urbanization leads to the increase of rural migrant workers and exacerbates the empty-nest trend of the elderly.Second, the reduction of the number of children increases the empty nest period of the elderly from the life cycle theory;Thirdly, the distance between generations increases, which reduces the probability of communication between the elderly and their children.Fourth, community services in rural areas are deficient and fail to play an important supplementary role.Restricted by the limited level of rural economic development, the social security system and the insufficient supply of social services,it is extremely important for the elderly with chronic diseases in rural areas to provide support for their children.Previous studies have shown that support provided by children to elderly parents is in line with the practical needs, but opinions on the influence of support from children on depression are divided. Therefore, the main purpose of this paper is to explore the influence and effect of children's support on the depression mood of the elderly with chronic diseases in rural areas,so as to provide some references for improving the mental health level of the elderly with chronic diseases and promoting the construction of a healthy China from the intergenerational perspective.Using the 2015 CHARLS data, descriptive statistics and OLS regression model, this paper is to analyze the following contents: Firstly, how do children support the elderly with chronic diseases in rural areas(including economic support, life care and spiritual support)and how do they feel about chronic diseases and depression? Secondly, what are the effects of children's financial support, life care and spiritual support for the elderly with chronic diseases on their depression? Finally,is there any difference in the influence of children's support on the depression of the elderly with chronic diseases in rural areas from the number of chronic diseases and the degree of chronic diseases? The main conclusions are as follows: First, from the perspective of descriptive statistics, the elderly with chronic diseases in rural areas suffer from depression, which is characterized by higher overall depression and higher depression in women than in men.Second, according to the overall OLS regression results, children's economic support, life care and spiritual support(frequency of meeting)all significantly reduce the depression of rural elderly with chronic diseases to varying degrees, but spiritual support(frequency of contact)has no significant effect on alleviating the depression of rural elderly with chronic diseases.Thirdly, from the regression results of the differences in chronic diseases,it can be seen that the more and deeper the number of chronic diseases is,the more significant the influence of children's life care and spiritual support on their depression is.In addition, the number of chronic diseases and the degree of chronic diseases do not increase synchronously.
