Objective: To explore the relationship between bone density and serum BMP4 level in the patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Methods: 128 patients were divided into two groups: normal group(n=66)and osteopenia group(n=62)according to the results of bone density. These patients were chosen from the Fourth Affiliated Hospital of China Medical Hospital in the NO.1 department of endocrinology from Jan 2017 to Dec 2017.ELISA was used to detect the level of BMP4 in serum.Comparison was made between the two groups for the level of serum BMP4,analyzed the correlation among the age, course of disease, waistline,BMI,FBG and other clinical indicators. Results: The level of BMP4 in serum,BMI and waistline for osteopenia group are significantly less than normal group(P<0.05).The age and course of disease for osteopenia group are significantly higher than normal group(P<0.05).Correlation analysis showed that the level of serum BMP4 was positively associated with BMI and negatively associated with age.And BMP4 has no relationship with course of disease, waistline,FBG,insulin,C peptide,HOMA-IR,HbA1 c,TG,TC,LDL,HDL and UA.Logistic regression analysis showed that BMP4 was bone density's independent protective factor. Conclusion: The level of BMP4 in serum is possibly related to the bone density in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. As an independent protective factor,BMP4 could be used to predict the loss of bone mass in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
