Objective: To determine the prevalence of deciduous caries in preschool children at the age of 3-5 years old in Chongqing City and related factors. To provide evidence for the establishment and adjustment of prevention and intervention of caries of preschool children.Method and material: Refer to The Fourth National Oral Health Epidemiological Surveys, the data included the caries prevalence of preschool children and the questionnaire results specific to children'parents in Chongqing city. The results were inputted by Epidata3.1 and statistically analyzed using SPSS 21.0 software package.Result: A total of 1350 participant conducted oral health checkups and parental oral questionnaires.Finding that the maxillary deciduous central incisor and the mandibular deciduous molars were the most prone to decay. The prevalence of primary teeth caries of preschool children in Chongqing City was 51.4%.The mean decayed-missing-filled-teeth(dmft)index was2.34.The caries prevalence and mean dmft between age groups werestatistically significant(P<0.01),and increased with age(P< 0.05).Except for 5 year-old group(P< 0.05),there was no statistically significant difference of the caries prevalence rate and mean dmft(P > 0.05)in term of gender.Most(61.7%)caries were concentrated in a small number(35.9%)of individuals.Multivariate Logistic regression analysis showed that age,the highest educational level of parents, intake frequency of sweetened beverages(including carbonated drinks),toothache or similar discomforted experience over the past year, whether visited dentist, parents' assessment on teeth and oral health status of children were important factors to influence the prevalence of deciduous caries(P< 0.05).Conclusion: More than half of the preschoolers had dental caries(694participants).Most caries were concentrated in a small number of individuals. The age of children, the highest educational level of parents, intake frequency of sweetened beverages(including carbonated drinks),toothache or discomforted experience over the past year, whether visited dentist, parents' assessment on teeth and oral health status of children were associated with the prevalence of deciduous caries.
