Object:In this work, novel idea named “Pull-back Acupuncture Therapy” was provided and adopted, with the exploration and discussion of clinical efficacy of the treatment of idiopathic facial paralysis in the acute phase.Methods:60 cases of patients which corresponding with this research were randomly divided into two groups by random number table method, with 30 patients in each group.According to different acupuncture methods,“Pull-back Acupuncture Therapy” was applied to treatment group, while the control group was under the conventional acupuncture method. The treatment in both groups was performed once per day with 30 min, continuously 6 days regarded as 1 course and followed by 1 day rest. The efficacy was evaluated after 3 courses.Bell's palsy ten-scoring method and House-Brackmann facial nerve function grading were employed to grade the patients before the treatment.Meanwhile, facial electromyography was performed on the seventh day of patient onset. All the gradings and electromyography checking were carried out again after 3 courses treatment finished. The curative effect was estimated by comparison of the gradings and results, and statistic data was analyzed by SPSS22.0 software.Results:1.After treatment, both groups showed significant improvement, with statistical significance(P<0.01)in terms of the Bell's palsy ten-scoring method,House-Brackmann facial nerve function grading and facial electromyography, which indicate the effectiveness of both treatments.2.The total effective rate of “Pull-back Acupuncture Therapy” was 96.66%,obviously higher than that of the conventional needling control group(86.66%).In addition, the number of cured and responced cases in the treatment group was apparently higher, while the number of ineffective cases was less than control group. The comparison of curative effect between groups showed statistical significance(P<0.05).It can be considered that the therapeutic effect of “Pull-back Acupuncture” was better than that of conventional acupuncture.Conclusion:1.For the acute phase of idiopathic facial paralysis, both of “Pull-back Acupuncture” and conventional acupuncture methods in respective groups showed definite curative effect in,which could improve the symptoms of patients with facial paralysis and restore facial nerve and facial expression muscle function.2.Exact clinical effect has been observed in treating the idiopathic facial paralysis in the acute phase by using “Pull-back Acupuncture”,holding obvious therapeutic advantages and superior to the conventional acupuncture group.
