Study On The Status Quo Of Knowledge,Belief And Behavior Of Maternal Breast Milk Donation In Haikou City

?Objective?This study investigated the maternal breast milk donation knowledge,belief attitude,and donation behavior in Haikou City,Hainan Province through a combination of quantitative and qualitative research.It pointed out the current status,existing problems and corresponding recommendations of maternal breast milk donation,knowledge,and behavior in Haikou City.It lay the foundation for popularizing breastfeeding knowledge and improving donation behavior,and also provide reference,and theoretical basis for the operation of breast milk bank.?Methods?1.Quantitative research: Cross-sectional survey.During June to August 2018,the author adopted convenient sampling method to extract 260 women from 8 hospitals in Haikou City who were hospitalized after delivery to conduct a questionnaire survey.The content of the questionnaire mainly includes four parts: general information,knowledge,attitude and behavior of breast milk donation.The data was statistically analyzed using SPSS 23.0.2.Qualitative research: Phenomenological research.During September to October2018,by using the method of Objective sampling,a sample of 16 women in a third highest hospital in Haikou City was selected for qualitative research,and the Colaizzi seven-step analysis method was used to analyze and process the data.?Results?Quantitative research results:(1)The survey of shows that the awareness rate of maternal breast milk donation in Haikou City was 24.6%;60.3% of hospitalized women expressed willingness to donate excess breast milk,8.8% of mothers expressed absolute reluctance to donate breast milk,48.1% of mothers have a wait-and-see attitude towards donating breast milk and only a very small number of mothers(2%)have had similar behaviors in breastfeeding.Maternal enthusiasm for continuous attention and dissemination of breast-feeding knowledge is not high.(2)The results of univariate analysis showed that: the factors influencing maternal breast milk donation knowledge were residential address,education level,work situation,family monthly income and number of children currently raised;Factors influencing maternal attitudes to breast milk donation include age,residential address,education level,work status,monthly family income,number of children currently raised,current feeding pattern and ideal feeding pattern;Factors influencing maternal breast milk donation include age,family monthly income,number of children currently raised,current feeding pattern and ideal feeding pattern.(3)The results of multivariate analysis showed that education level and residential address were the factors influencing maternal breast milk donation knowledge.The factors influencing maternal attitude towards breast milk donation include age,residential address,education level and number of children currently raised.Factors influencing maternal breast milk donation include age,family monthly income,number of children currently raised and current feeding mode.(4)In terms of willingness to donate breast milk,there were statistically significant differences in education level,work status,family monthly income,lactation status and current feeding methods(P < 0.05).Qualitative research results: Five main topics were concluded from maternal breast milk donation,knowledge,and behavior:(1)Maternal love triggers the willingness to donate;(2)The fully use the breast milk is the driving force of donation;(3)The doubt of breast milk bank is the main obstacle of the donation;(4)Social support affects the donor to make a donation decision;(5)The complexity of the donation hinder the implementation of the donation.?Conclusions?1.The awareness rate of maternal breast milk donation in Haikou City is at the national average level,and the awareness rate is low.2.Maternal breastfeeding attitude is positive,but there are more doubts about donating breast milk.3.Maternal breastfeeding behavior is affected by many factors.Breastfeeding donation is an effective measure to improve breastfeeding rates,it offers help to premature and low birth weight infants that have urgent needs for breast milk.Therefore,the following factors are essential to promote the donation: the improvement of awareness and trust of breastfeeding donation,the simple donation process,the driving force of “mother love” as well as the connotation of breast milk donation.All those makes a positive donation atmosphere and public recognition.Aiming at this,the author suggests that it can be carried out by public management,relevant staff and individuals.
