Background: Hyperuricemia(HUA)is a common chronic disease with purine metabolic disorder, and its prevalence is increasing year by year.Hyperuricemia, which is often associated with hypertension(HTN),hypertriglyceridemia(HTG),metabolic syndrome(MS),obesity and other diseases,is a great harm to human health. Therefore,it is of great significance to develop the epidemiology of hyperuricemia in Ningbo, where the economy is developing rapidly. Objective: Our aim is to investigate the prevalence of hyperuricemia in the adults of Ningbo and to compare the difference of prevalence between males and females according to the age stratification.Meanwhile, this study is also designed to investigate the relationship among hyperuricemia and hypertension, hypertriglyceridemia, metabolic syndrome and obesity and to provide sufficient scientific basis for the prevention and treatment of hyperuricemia and its complications. Methods: A cross-sectional cohort study was conducted to study the health check-up of adults in a chemical factory in Ningbo,China. After signing the informed consent, all participants completed a questionnaire, which included their demographic characteristics and family history, the physical examinations and the detection of biochemical indicators. Results: Among the population, the overall prevalence of HUA was 18.74%,and it was significantly higher in males than that observed in females(22.31% vs.10.20%;p < 0.001).Logistic regression analysis showed that after adjusting for age, gender, smoking, alcohol consumption, body mass index, waist circumference, urea nitrogen, creatinine, aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase,C reactive protein, and glomerular filtration rate, hypercholesterolemia, hypertriglyceridemia, hypertension, diabetes, metabolic syndrome and fatty liver are the risk factors of hyperuricemia. The incidence of hypertension, hypertriglyceridemia, metabolic syndrome and obesity were closely related to basic serum uric acid. The higher level of the basic blood uric acid, the greater risk of occur aforementioned four diseases.Conclusion:(1)The prevalence of hyperuricemia in Ningbo adults was relatively high. With the increase of age,the prevalence of hyperuricemia in males and females was increasing. The risk of hyperuricemia in postmenopausal women was much higher than that in premenopausal women.(2)Hyperuricemia is closely related to hypertension, hyperlipidemia, metabolic syndrome and obesity. Therefore, early control of serum uric acid level may be helpful to reduce the incidence of hypertension, hyperlipidemia and obesity in the future.
