Background:Hyperuricemia is a growing health problem worldwide.Despite the impact of the disease on patients' quality of life, epidemiology data on hyperuricemia have been absent now.To date,no nationwide studies have been recorded in China to assess the prevalence trends of hyperuricemia. Objective:To assess the trends of hyperuricemia prevalence in the Chinese adults during the years 1985-2018.Methods:A Search of Chinese database was carried out to identify any study published from January,1986 to January,2018,reporting the prevalence of hyperuricemia in China.Data extraction is done for studies that meet the inclusion criteria.Draw the prevalence-year scatter plot and perform curve fitting to demonstrate the trend of HUA prevalence over time.Using LOWESS to analyze the phase change tendency of HUA prevalence and giving the regression equations before and after the change respectively.Positive slope represents an upward trend and negative represents a downward trend P<0.05 was statistically significant. Results:The articles related to HUA prevalence have gradually increased since the 1990s.The subjects were equally distributed between men and women and different age groups.Published articles from all over the country, and most of them in economically developed regions. The prevalence of HUA in Chinese adults showed an upward trend before 2014,the point estimate is 0.18(95%Cl 0.06—0.30,P<0.01),and a slow decline after 2014,the point estimate is-2.10(95%Cl-3.61—0.59,P<0.01),and men also show similar trends. While the prevalence of female HUA only showed an upward tendency, the point estimate is 0.17(95%CI 0.06—0.29,P<0.01).Prevalence of HUA in all age groups showed upward trends in 30 years, however, some subgroup trends have altered in recent years. The total prevalence of HUA in the 60-69 age group increased with the year before 2009,the point estimate is 0.51(95%Cl 0.20—0.82,P<0.01),and decreased after 2009,the point estimate is-0.68(95%CI-1.28—0.08,P<0.05);In men,the prevalence of HUA in the 40-49,the point estimate is 1.06(95%CI-2.45—-0.18,P<0.05),and 60-69 age group the point estimate is 0.73(95%CI-2.44—-0.16,P<0.05)also declined after 2009.In many provinces, the prevalence of HUA has generally risen during the past 30 years.Although changes in prevalence trends were seen in other subgroups, the regression equation was not statistically significant. Conclusion:The articles related to HUA prevalence have gradually increased in China, and most of them in economically developed regions. The prevalence of HUA in Chinese adults showed an upward trend before 2014 and a slow decline after 2014.There are different trends between different genders, but the tendencies of HUA prevalence are similar in different ages and geographical groups.
