With the frequent occurrence of suicide among adolescents in recent years,suicide has become a public health issue of great concern to scholars from all walks of life.The attention should be given to the harm of suicide to the growth of adolescents.The incidence of suicidal ideation among adolescents in China is 17.7%.Suicide is seriously threatening the physical and mental health of adolescents in China.Based on the Stress-vulnerability model and PPCT model,this study explored the effects of impulsivity and academic achievement on suicidal ideation in adolescents.Using the Barratt Impulsiveness Scale,Monthly Examination Achievement and Suicidal Ideation/Suicidal Attempt Questionnaire,the junior high school students from Shuanggang Middle School in Tianjin were investigated three times at half a year intervals,and 211 subjects were tracked.Study 1 tested the predictive effect of impulsivity and academic achievement on suicidal ideation of adolescents at a cross-sectional level.Study 2 explored the role of impulsivity and academic achievement in the developlent of suicidal ideation of adolescents at three time points at a lonuitudinal level,including three experiments:Experiment 1 explored the development trend of adolescents' impulsivity,academic achievement and suicidal ideation over time in three measurements;Experiment 2 explored the delayed predictive effect of impulsivity and academic achievement on adolescents' suicidal ideation;Experiment 3 explored the transformative effect of impulsivity and academic achievement on adolescents5 suicidal ideation over time.The results were as following:1.Impulsivity and academic achievement are predictors of suicidal ideation in adolescents at a cross-sectional level:2.Impulsivity,academic achievement and suicidal ideation are all showed changes in the three measurements.The level of impulsivity increased one after another,while academic achievement and suicidal ideation first decreased and then increased;3.Both impulsivity and acadelic achievenent can delay the prediction of suicidal ideation at a longitudinal level.Among them,impulsivity positively predict suicidal ideation and academic achievement negatively predict suicidal ideation;4.In the first two measurements,impulsivity was the main factor which affect adolescents' suicidal ideation.In the last two measurements,academic achievement was the main factor which affect adolescents' suicidal ideation.
