Background:Our society is ageing at an unprecedented pace, mainly due to longer life spans and the ageing of the baby boomer generation.Ageing itself remains the strongest risk factor for all of the most prevalent chronic diseases, including neurodegenerative disorders. Thus, the increasing ageing population will inevitably have a large impact on health care systems and national economies, along with an emotional and financial impact on patients and their families. With the increasing ageing of the population, the prevalence of dementia has increased significantly. The updated estimated number of people with dementia aged 60 years or above is 9.5million in China.Consequently, therapeutic interventions aimed to increase quality of life at advanced ages are in high demand,at the level of both the individual and society. However,to date, there is no effective prevention or treatment for these debilitating diseases. Objective:This study was designed to investigate the association between body lipid profiles or internal lipid profiles and cognitive function,as well as the effects of gender, age and education level on the association,so as to provide clinically relevant and non-invasive possible markers of cognitive impairment, especially for people with low educational level.Method:The study selected residents according to the inclusion criteria and exclusion criteria in four surrounding communities of Nanchang,Jiangxi Province,China from November 2013 to March 2014,with a detailed record of the general condition, physical health status and cognitive function, and divided them into cognitive impairment group and non-cognitive impairment group according to MMSE score. All data were analyzed by SPSS 21.0 statistical software. The continuous variables were analyzed by Pearson test and the categorical variables were analyzed by chi-square test. The influence of each variable on MMSE was analyzed by single factor and multi-factor logistic regression analysis.Two-side p<0.05 expression was statistically significant.Result:Body lipid profiles(OR=1.05 [95%CI,1.01–1.09],P<0.05),Internal lipid profiles(OR=1.03 [95%CI,1.00–1.06],P<0.05),and age(OR=1.03 [95%CI,1.01–1.05],P<0.05)were all positively correlated with cognitive impairment. At the same time, education played a protective role. Conclusion:Cognitive impairment was more frequent in female patients with high internal lipid profiles or body lipid profiles, and these characteristics were related to age and educational level.
