Objective:To explore the expression of STIL gene in cervical carcinoma and its relationship with clinicopathological features and prognosis.Methods:1.To find out the expression of STIL gene in cervical cancer tissues by searching the cancer public database Oncomine.2.To collect paraffin-embedded specimens of cervical cancer(including paracancerous normal tissue)from January 2013 to January 2014 in Jiangxi Provincial Maternal and Child Health Hospital for cervical biopsy or surgical resection.Immunohistochemical staining was used to detect the expression of STIL in cervical cancer and adjacent normal tissues, and to explore its relationship with age, tumor size, histological type, differentiation degree and lymph node metastasis in patients with cervical cancer. The relationship between FIGO stage and other clinicopathological features.3.To study the relationship between the expression of STIL and the prognosis of patients with cervical cancer, and to evaluate whether it can be used as a predictor of prognosis of patients with cervical cancer.Results:1.The expression of the STIL gene in the cervical cancer tissues was significantly higher than that in the normal tissues(P<0.0001).2.The high expression rate of STIL was 68.06% in squamous cell carcinoma of cervix and 70.58% in adenocarcinoma of cervix by immunohistochemical staining in 89 paraffin-embedded specimens of cervical cancer(including normal tissue adjacent to carcinoma),and the positive rate of high expression of STIL was 70.58% in cervical squamous cell carcinoma and 70.58% in adenocarcinoma of cervix. The positive rate of STIL expression was 13.49% in normal tissues adjacent to cancer. The expression of STIL in cervical cancer tissues was significantly higher than that in normal tissues(P < 0.05).3.There was no significant difference in the expression of STIL protein among different age, tumor size, histological type, differentiation degree(P > 0.05).There was significant difference in the expression of STIL protein between lymph node metastasis and different FIGO stages(P < 0.05).4.The expression level of STIL gene, lymph node metastasis and FIGO stage were the prognostic factors of cervical cancer. The level of STIL expression can be used to predict the prognosis of patients with cervical cancer. Conclusion:The expression of STIL gene was significantly increased in cervical cancer tissues, and the high expression of STIL could be used as a predictor of poor prognosis of cervical cancer patients.
