Objectives1.To explore the influencing factors of sedentary behavior of elderly in communities.2.To explore the effects of theory and influencing factors based intervention on sedentary behavior,physical activities and quality of life of elderly in communities.Methods1.In the qualitative research,13 participants from Jingguang Road Fengchun Community Health Service Center of Zhengzhou were recruited for the semi-structured interview,using a purposive sampling.Colaizzi data analysis method was applied for the data analysis.2.In the intervention study,60 participants from Jingguang Road Fengchun Community Health Service Center of Zhengzhou were recruited,and were grouped in terms of the community.The intervention group received an intervention which was developed through literature review,expert consultation and preliminary experiment,including a meeting on sedentary behavior at the beginning of the program,and six weekly consultations,taking about five to thirty minutes each time.While the control group received regular community care,including a meeting on physical activity and one follow up.International physical activity questionnaire,sedentary behavior log book and the world health organization quality of life were applied for data collection before,at the end of and after 6 weeks of the intervention.Chi-square test,rank sum test,two independent samples t test and the ANOVA for repeated measures were used for data analysis.Results1.In the qualitative research,intrapersonal factors and perceived environmental factors were two categories of the contributing factors of sedentary behavior of elderly in the community.Intrapersonal factors included physiological limitations,personal traits,and knowledge deficiency on sedentary behavior.Perceived environmental factors included perception of social-cultural environmental limitation,perception of natural environmental limitation,and perception of policy environmental limitation.2.In the intervention study,53 participants completed the program,leaving a final sample of 27 in the intervention group,and of 26 in the control group.After the intervention,the total sedentary time,sedentary bouts and sedentary interruptions of the intervention group were all improved compared to baseline(P<0.05).The total sedentary time and sedentary bouts of the intervention group were all improved compared to the control group(P<0.05).After 6 weeks of the intervention,the total sedentary time and sedentary bouts of the intervention group were still improved compared to baseline(P<0.05).The sedentary bouts of the intervention group were improved compared to the control group(P<0.05).At the end and after 6 weeks of the intervention,the volume of walking and total physical activity of the intervention group were all improved compared to baseline(P<0.05),but the difference between the intervention group and the control group was not statistically significant(P>0.05).After the intervention,the physical health domain,the social relationships domain and the environment domain quality of life of the intervention group were all improved compared to baseline(P<0.05).The environment domain quality of life of the intervention group were improved compared to the control group(P<0.05).After 6 weeks of the intervention,the social relationships domain and the environment domain quality of life of the intervention group were still improved compared to baseline(P<0.05).The environment domain quality of life of the intervention group were improved compared to the control group(P<0.05).Conclusion1.Physiological limitations,personal traits,and knowledge deficiency on sedentary behavior are the intrapersonal factors of the contributing factors of sedentary behavior of elderly in the community.And perception of social-cultural environmental limitation,perception of natural environmental limitation,and perception of policy environmental limitation are the perceived environmental factors of the contributing factors of sedentary behavior of elderly.2.The theory and influencing factors based intervention can improve the total sedentary time,sedentary bouts and environment domain quality of life of elderly in communities.
