Objectives: This study took RP as the starting point, analyzed the epidemiological trend of RP patients, distribution characteristics of TCM syndromes, and compared the relationship between different syndromes and curative effect,as well as the relationship between different treatment methods and curative effect.Deepen the understanding of TCM on this disease, make TCM syndrome differentiation more objective and standardized, and thus provide support and guidance for clinical prevention and treatment. Methods: Retrospective study was conducted on the inpatient data of patients with retinal pigmentation who were explicitly diagnosed as retinal pigmentation in the ophthalmology department of the first affiliated hospital of human university of traditional Chinese medicine from 1987 to 2016.Results:(1)Epidemiological features:802cases of RP were included in this study, among which 58.45% were male and 41.15%were female. The age distribution of patients ranged from 2 to 71 years old,and most of them were between 30 and 50 years old(accounting for 50.62% of the total). There were 160 people with genetic family history, accounting for 19.95% of the total population.(2)The longest course of illness is 50 year, and the shortest is 2 mouths.Patients with short treatment time showed no significant improvement in their visual field, which should be improved for at least 30 days.compared with vision, the course treatment has a greater impact on visual field.(3)The main syndrome type is syndrome of yin deficiency of liver and kidney(49.38%).Different syndrome types have differences in efficacy, and the most significant syndrome type is qi deficiency and blood stasis syndrome,280 had visual acuity effect,355 had visual acuity effect, and 167 had visual acuity effect.Visual field effect of 245 people,effective315 people,242 people. The apparent efficiency of the two was 79.18% and 69.83%.(4)In the case that gene therapy has not been popularized,RP is recommended to be treated with Chinese and Western combination. The commonly used traditional Chinese medicines for RP are tonifying yin,qi and tonifying drugs. The three syndromes all use angelica, night scent, peach kernel, safflower, salvia, and stone cassia.Conclusions:(1)Gender and age have no significant difference in the incidence of RP,and the course of disease and treatment have significant difference in the efficacy of RP.(2)The main syndrome are liver and kidney yin deficiency syndrome; The most significant syndrome type is liver and kidney yin deficiency syndrome.(3)RP at present the better method is the Chinese and western junction treatment, the visual field improvement is obvious.(4)RP deficiency and sputum throughout the disease all types of drugs, medication can be used to supplement the treatment of traditional Chinese medicine.
