Objectiv: To investigate the effect of surgical methods on postoperative function of scapular malignant tumor. Methods: A retrospective analysis of 17 patients with scapular bone malignant tumors resection in our hospital from July 2015 to November 2018,including 8 males and 12 females, aged from 17 to 74,the average age was 53.6 years. There were 9 cases of primary malignant tumor of scapula, among the primary malignant tumor, including 5cases of chondrosarcoma,2 cases of synovial sarcoma,1 case of undifferentiated sarcoma and 1 case of plasma cell myeloma. There were 8 cases of metastatic tumor, including 3 cases of lung carcinoma,1 case of liver carcinoma,1 case of laryngeal carcinoma,1 case of thyroid carcinoma,1 case of breast cancer and 1 case of epithelial malignant tumor. In the Enneking stage,1 case was in the stage of IIA,5 cases were in the stage of IIB and 11 cases in the stage of III.All patients underwent scapula limb salvage surgery, and some cases were treated with artificial mesh to repair the scapular defect and surrounding soft tissue. All patients were evaluated functional outcomes using the scoring system of Musculoskeletal Tumor Society(MSTS).Results: Followed up for 3~39 months, the average follow-up time was 15.9 months. At the last follow-up,the MSTS score averaged 75.5%(43.3~100.0%).There were no complications such as infection and delayed wound healing.Among the surgical methods of total scapulectomy, retention of acromion, retention of acromion and glenoid cavity,MSTS scores were all higher in patients with patch reconstruction than those without patch reconstruction.Factors such as residual bone mass, rotator cuff, age and recurrence affect postoperative function. Conclusion: In the same manner of scapula resection, the patch reconstruction showeda higher functional score and a lower incidence of complications than those without the patch reconstruction. The MSTS score was affected by factors such as recurrence and residual bone mass.
