Background:Systemic Lupus Erythematosus(SLE)is a chronic disease with many serious and recurrent attacks, which not only endangers children’s physical and mental health, but affects their parents’ mental state seriously.Negative emotions and high psychological stress of parents will cause adverse effects on themselves, furthermore directly affect the children’s understanding of the disease and prognosis,in turn to affect children’s physical and mental development. At present,in China, the psychosocial problems of the parents of children with SLE have been paid few attention to,and the intervention study is rare.Previous studies at home and abroad have confirmed that Williams Life Skills Training(WLST)is effective in improving the symptoms of anxiety and depression, psychological stress and coping style. On the basis of relevant studies, this study aims to explore whether WLST can ameliorate the symptoms of anxiety and depression effectively, reduce perceived stress, improve the coping style,in the parents of children with SLE.Objective:To evaluate the effect of Williams Life Skill Training in reducing the level of anxiety and depression, relieving psychological pressure and improving the coping style,in the parents of children with SLE.Method:This study is a quasi-experimental study.Convenient sampling was adopted from the pediatric department of a third-grade class-A hospital in Beijing. From March 2017 to December 2017,a total of 76 parents of children with SLE were recruited.Subjects were divided into intervention group(n=38)and the control group(n=38)according to the time they were recruited. This study first recruited the subjects of control group and then the subjects of intervention group. The subjects of the control group received routine care in the pediatric ward. The subjects of the intervention group received routine care and received Williams Life Skills Training in the pediatric ward. The self rating anxiety scale(SAS),the self rating depression scale(SDS),the Chinese Perceived Stress Scale Questionnaire(CPSS)and the Simplified Coping Style Questionnaire were used to assess the parents before Williams Life Skills Training, before discharge,at 1 months and 3 months after Williams Life Skills Training. Results:A total of 73 subjects were observed 3 months after intervention, including 37 in the intervention group and 36 in the control group.(1)Comparing with controls, participants who received WLST showed significantly greater improvements in self rating anxiety, self rating depression, perceived stress and coping style that maintained over the 3-month follow-up period. The scores of SAS,the scores of SDS,the scores of CPSS and the scores of negative coping of the parents in the intervention group were significantly lower than these in the control group(P<0.05)at all measuring points after the intervention. For the score of positive coping, there was no significant difference between two groups(P>0.05).(2)In the intervention group,at each measuring point after the intervention, the score of SAS,the score of SDS,the score of CPSS and the score of negative coping of parents were significantly lower than these before the intervention(P<0.05),and the score of positive coping were higher than that before the intervention(P<0.05),and the differences were statistically significant. In the control group, the scores of S AS of parents at all measuring points after the intervention(except before discharge)were significantly higher than that before the intervention(P<0.05);the scores of SDS were significantly higher than that before the intervention,at each measuring point after the intervention(P<0.05);the scores of CPSS at all measuring points after the intervention(except before discharge)were not statistically different from that before the intervention(P>0.05);the score of negative coping of parents before discharge was higher than that before the intervention(P<0.05),however,one month and three months after the intervention,it was lower than that before the intervention(P<0.05).Conclusion:For the parents of children with SLE,Williams Life Skills Training is an effective method in ameliorating symptoms of anxiety and depression, relieving perceived stress and improving coping style.
