| Objective: To analyze the differences between age and sex on the thickness of temporal soft tissue and to explore the relationship between the thickness of temporal soft tissue and age and sex by measuring the thickness of temporal soft tissue between Han men and women of different ages using magnetic resonance imaging(MRI),and to provide references for surgeons for evaluating and treating temporal rejuvenation before operation,so as to achieve a better therapeutic effect. It also supplements the database of the soft tissue thickness of the head and face in the region. Methods: In this study, one side of the temporal region was used as the unit,300 cases of patients with head MRI scans from the First Affiliated Hospital of Dalian Medical University from December 2016 to December 2018 were randomly selected. The patients were divided into three groups according to age group: Youth Group(18-28 years old),middle-aged group(45-55 years old),elderly group(≥65 years old). There were 50 male and 50 female subjects in each group. The MRI scanning images were measured by image reading system(Uniweb).According to the median sagittal body surface marker as the reference, the temporal part was divided into three transects: Nose root spot(nasion,N)transect, the interbrow point(glabella,G)transect and the intermediate level. We measured the thickness of the whole temporal soft tissue, musculi temporalis and the extratemporal soft tissue in the same coronal section. The software SPSS 21.0 is used for data analysis. Results: According to the statistical results, there was no significant difference in the thickness of temporal soft tissue, musculi temporalis and extratemporal soft tissue between young men and women. In middle age group: the thickness of whole temporal soft tissue in three layers and musculi temporalis of middle age male group was significantly higher than that in female group, but there was no difference between male and female in the thickness of extratemporal soft tissue in three layers. In the elderly group, there was a significant difference in the thickness of the extratemporal soft tissue only in the intereyebrow point transect between the elderly men and the elderly women(p=0.009).Among the male subjects, there was significant difference in the thickness of the whole temporal soft tissue and the musculi temporalis in three layers between the youth group, the middle age group and the elderly group. And there was a statistical difference in the extratemporal soft tissue between the intereyebrow point(p=0.008).In the middle age group, the thickness of the whole temporal soft tissue and temporal muscle were all greater than those of the young group, and the thickness of the extratemporal soft tissue between the intereyebrow point in the middle age group was higher than that in the young group(p=0.008).The whole thickness of temporal soft tissue and temporal muscle in middle-aged group were higher than those in elderly group, and the thickness of extratemporal soft tissue between the intereyebrow point in middle-aged group was significantly higher than that in elderly group(p=0.006).The whole thickness of temporal soft tissue and temporal muscle in young group were higher than those in elderly group, there was significant difference. But there was no significant difference in the thickness of extratemporal soft tissue between young group and elderly group.Among the female subjects, there was significant difference in the thickness of the whole temporal soft tissue in temporal muscle and the extratemporal soft tissue between the youth group, the middle age group and the elderly group. There was no significant difference in the thickness of the whole temporal soft tissue, temporal muscle and the extratemporal soft tissue between the young group and the middle age group. The thickness of the whole temporal soft tissue, temporal muscle and the extratemporal soft tissue in the middle age group were higher than those in the elderly group, and there was statistical difference between them. And the thickness of the whole temporal soft tissue, temporal muscle and the extratemporal soft tissue in the young group were higher than that in the elderly group, and there was statistical difference. Conclusion: There is a correlation between temporal soft tissue thickness and age and sex in adult population of Han nationality in Dalian. The change of the thickness of temporal soft tissue in male shows the tendency of "thick-thickest-thinning",which is mainly the result of the change of temporal muscle thickness. The change of temporal soft tissue in women shows a tendency of " thick-thick-thinning ",which is the result of the joint thinning of temporal muscle and extratemporal soft tissue. The difference of soft tissue thickness between men and women is mainly reflected in middle age,the whole layer thickness of temporal soft tissue in middle-aged men is significantly larger than that of middle-aged women, and the difference of temporal muscle thickness is the main reason for this disparity. |
