Objective: In this paper, magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)is used to measure the distance from the surface of the six anatomical points of the Han men and women of different ages in the Liaoning region to the surface of the periosteum and the shape of the nose. The purpose of this study is to create a reference database for nasal and lip soft tissue thickness and nasal morphology in the Han population of Liaoning, and analyze nasal and lips soft tissue thickness and nasal morphology of different genders and age groups. Methods: The patients who underwent MRI examination in the outpatient department and ward of the First Affiliated Hospital of Dalian Medical University are randomly selected, including 137 males and 139 female patients, and there are 42 males and 44 females in the youth group(20-28 years old),45 males and 44 females in the middle-aged group(45-55 years old),50 males and 51 females in the elderly group(67-74 years old).Using the imaging measurement tool to measure the midline facial of the MRI,and refer to the measurement landmarks studied by domestic and foreign scholars, the soft tissue thickness of the six anatomical points of the nose and lips(nasion, end of nasal,subnasale,mid-philtrum,upper lip, lower lip)and the morphology of the nose(nasal height, nasal length, and nasal depth)are measured. The measurement data are statistically analyzed by SPSS software, and the results are expressed as mean± standard deviation, the difference is statistically significant at P < 0.05.Results:According to the statistical results, whether the nasal and lips soft tissue thickness or nasal line distance, the average measurement of men in the same age group is larger than that of women.Compared with men and women in the same age group, except the young group's nasal length(P=0.961)and the middle-aged group's nasion thickness(P=0.099)are no statistical significance, the other measurements are statistically significant. For male subjects,in the measurement of soft tissue thickness of the nose and lips, the young,middle-aged,and elderly groups showed a decreasing trend at five measurement points: nasion,subnasale,mid-philtrum,upper lip, lower lip, however, end of nasal is gradually increasing. There are no statistically significant differences in nasion data between the young and middle-aged groups(P=0.465),the young and elderly group(P=0.339),the middle-aged and elderly group(P=0.970).In the end of nasal, there is no statistical significance in the comparison between the young group and the middle-aged group(P=0.075),and the middle-aged and the elderly group(P=0.066),the comparison between the young group and the old group is statistically significant. As for the lower lip, there is no statistically significant difference between the middle-aged and the elderly group(P=0.531),and the other two groups have statistical significance.Subnasale,mid-philtrum,and upper lip are statistically significant in all age groups. In the measurement of nasal morphology, the three variables of nasal length, nasal height and nasal depth are gradually increasing with age. There are no statistically significant differences between the middle-aged and the elderly group in terms of nasal length(P=0.293),nasal height(P=0.055),and nasal depth(P=0.056),but there are statistical differences between the young and middle-aged groups, the young and the elderly group in the comparison of these three variables.Analysis of the statistical data of female subjects,we can find that in the measurement of soft tissue thickness of the nose and lips, the young,middle-aged and elderly groups show a decreasing trend in the three measurement points: subnasale,mid-philtrum,and the upper lip, however, the nasion and end of nasal show an increasing trend. In terms of nasion, there is no statistically significant difference between the young and middle-aged groups(P=0.631),middle-aged and elderly group(P=0.157).For the end of nasal, there is no statistically significant difference between the young and the middle-aged group(P=0.368),and the other age groups are statistically significant. The subnasale,mid-philtrum and upper lip are statistically significant in all age groups. In the lower lip, there is no statistically significant difference between the middle-aged and the elderly group(P=0.727),and the other two groups have statistical significance. In the measurement of nasal morphology, similarly to males, the three variables of nasal length, nasal height and nasal depth also gradually increasing with age. However, unlike men, there is no statistically significant difference between the middle-aged and the elderly group in terms of nasal length(P=0.098),nasal height(P=0.103),and nasal depth(P=0.492).There are also no statistical differences between the young group and the middle-aged group in terms of nasal length(P=0.127)and nasal height(P=0.052).Conclusion: There are gender and age differences in nasal and lips soft tissue thickness and nasal morphology in the Han population in Liaoning, and the males in the same age group are larger than women. With the aging of the human body, the three variables of nasal length, nasal height and nasal depth are gradually increasing with age,and the soft tissue thickness of the nose and lips are decreasing with age at most measurement points.
