Research On National Master Of TCM Professor Wei Guikang's Representative Terms Of Manual Medicine English Translation

Objective: Based on the special theories and methods the National Master of TCM Professor Wei Guikang,a series terms of manual medicine are selected to be translated into English to improve the accuracy and unification of the English terms in Professor Wei Guikang's books and relative international conferences so as to further promote the worldwide spread of the manual medicine of the National Master Professor Wei Guikang of TCM.Methods: First,numbers of the translated terms commonly used in manual medicine in the relative published books are selected and compared horizontally to find out the existing translation problems;Secondly,based on the holism syndrome differentiation theory,spinal-Du meridian integrated theory,Yin Yang and Five Phases theory and six obstruction theory in professor Wei Guikang's manual treatment,110 terms are screened out and classified from the books of Spine-Related Diseases,Wei's Yin Yang and Five Phases Manipulation,The Book of Chinese Manual Medical Treatment,Graphical Spinal Triple Compound Manipulation and Illustrated Therapeutic Manipulations in TCM Orthopedics and Traumatology;Thirdly,under the guidance of Nida's functional theory of equivalence and the principle of simplicity,methods of literal translation,free translation and transliteration are adopted in translating the selected terms;Finally,these selected versions are analyzed to find out the proper methods and the general rules for translation of the terms in manual medicine.Results: Under the guidance of Nida's functional theory of equivalence and the principle of simplicity,110 terms of manual medicine of the National Master of TCM Professor Wei Guikang are translated with methods of literal translation,free translation and transliteration.Conclusions: 1.The principle of simplicity should be followed in the translation on the terms of manual medicine.Under the different situations and aims,if the single term cannot explain the complicated treating process,the explanatory words must be added.2.The terms translated in this paper can be used to spread the National Master of TCM professor Wei Guikang's special theory and methods in orthopedics and trauma treatment to the world.3.Besides the language skills,a translator has to understand the knowledge of manual medicine so as to obtain the correct translation on the relative terms.4.The translated terms of Professor Wei Guikang's special theory and methods in orthopedics and trauma treatment in this paper cannot include all the terms of manual medicine and some of the translated versions need further study and discussions.
