| Research purpose:This study compares and analyzes the English translations of spleen and stomach disease terms in the five authoritative translation standards of Chinese medicine terms at home and abroad, and summarizes the principles and methods of English translation of traditional Chinese medicine disease terms.;Through comparative analysis and reference to relevant literatures, the national standard for spleen and stomach TCM disease terminology was optimized and researched, and finally a relatively reasonable English translation of the term was established to form the national standard for spleen and stomach TCM disease terminology(revised edition). It provides a suitable reference for the study of English translation of TCM pathogenesis terms and the optimization of national standards.Research methods:1.Literature research method: By comprehensively reviewing relevant literature, sort out the current status and problems of TCM translation, and the current translation principles and methods of TCM terminology translation.2.Comparative analysis method: Nida’s "functional equivalence" translation mode is used to compare and analyze the English translations of commonly used spleen and stomach diseases and pathogenesis terms in the five English translations, based on the tenth edition of the "Traditional Chinese Medicine Basic Theory" textbook and the "Traditional Chinese Medicine Terminology Dictionary" conclusions are drawn.Results:1.In this study, there are 77 terms of spleen and stomach TCM pathogenesis,of which 2 are completely consistent, accounting for 2.6% of the total entries;17 are basically consistent, accounting for 22.1% of the total entries;28 are partially consistent, accounting for the total 36.4% of the entries;30 with zero agreement, accounting for 39.0% of the total entries.2.The English translation of the two terms is completely the same, using the original standard English translation. The 17 terms that are basically the same are all selected from the recorded standards.Partially consistent 28 terms,of which 25 were selected from the recorded standards and 3 were changed from the original standard. There are 30 consistent entries,21 of the original standard English translation are completely adopted, and 8 new translations are proposed.Conclusion:1.In this study, the terms of spleen-stomach TCM pathogenesis, partial consistent entries and zero-consistent terms accounted for the largest proportion. The problem of inconsistent translation of spleen-stomach TCM pathogenesis terms is more prominent. This phenomenon is mainly due to the gap in the vocabulary of noun terms entered in the five English translation standards;the English translations of many words have the same meaning, but there are differences in the translation results that are not completely consistent.2.Based on Nida’s functional equivalence theory, this study finally determined the English translation of 5 standard 76 terms of spleen and stomach TCM pathology, and summarized the national standard of English translation of common terms of spleen and stomach pathology(Revised Edition).3.By consulting the relevant literature on TCM terminology translation and authoritative dictionaries / standards at home and abroad, the English translation of TCM terms should follow the following principles: A: Accuracy,B: Conciseness,C: Systematic,D: Identity,E: Convention.4.Literal translation is currently the most commonly used and main method in the translation of traditional Chinese medicine terminology;free translation is more focused on conveying the basic meaning of the original text for readers to understand;appropriate transliteration can be used to express the basic terms unique to traditional Chinese medicine that have been unified at home and abroad. |
