Objective:To compare the curative effect of two oral appliances in the treatment of mild and moderate obstructive sleep apnea syndrome?OSAS?.Methods:Fifty cases of adult patients with mild and moderate OSAS?40 male and 10 female?were measured by polysomnography?PSG?and classified into group A and group B by randomized controlled trial design.Ages range from 26 to 65 years. They were treated with two kinds of oral appliances for 6 weeks and 24 weeks. The results of PSG were analyzed by repeated measures analysis of variance, subjective efficacy evaluation was used to compare the efficacy of two kinds of oral appliance. Results:The results of repeated measures analysis of variance showed:the apnea hypopnoea index?AHI??oxygen desaturation index?ODI??minimum value of oxygen saturation?MinSaO2??Epworth Sleepiness Scale?ESS?score and the Sleep Apnea Quality of Life Index scores were statistically significant before and after treatment in group A and group B.It shows that the oral appliance has obvious curative effect on the treatment of OSAS patients. The results of group A and group B showed that there were interaction among AHI?ODI?MinSaO2?ESS score and social communication?symptoms?aggregate score in SAQLI with measurement time.It is known from the repeated measurement variance analysis of the profile that the average of AHI and ODI in group A was less than that of group B.MinSaO2?social communication?symptoms?aggregate score in SAQLI were greater than that of group B.The results showed that the curative effect of group A oral appliance was better than that of group B.The effective rate was 80%in group A and 52%in group B.The difference in the comfort of the two oral appliances was statistically significant?P<0.001?,and the mono-block was more comfortable. Conclusion:The curative effect of the mono-block is better than adjustable oral appliance and the mono-block is more comfortable.
