Background: In this study, the method of stimulation at channal-skin region on hand and foot for hypertension derived from traditional folk medicine. In order to discover the value of this method,we have done clinical research to find evidence to prove the reliability of the therapy. Objective: As a high occurring and unknown etiology, hypertension possessed serious impact on the living quality of patients,an over-due medical problem. This study was designed to observe the clinical efficacy of hand and foot stimulation in patients with hypertension grade 2&3,to obtain clinical data,to provide strong evidence for further clinical large sample studies and to provide a scientific basis for the treatment of primary hypertension and the so improving the life quality of the patients. Methods: 64 cases of essential hypertension in grade 2&3 were randomly divided into the treatment group and the control group. The treatment group and the control group were included in 32 patients, both groups were given the basis of antihypertensive drugs and healthy diet&exercise guide. The treatment group was given additional treatment of cutanious region of channals at distal end of hand and foot stimulation. After the first treatment, the blood pressure of the treatment group was measured immediately.Blood pressure levels,Hypertension symptom scale,SF-36 scale and BMI were recorded at the beginning, followed by the 4th,and 8th week of the treatment session, and the 4th week of follow-up.SPSS 20.0 was used to calculate the difference between the two sets of data. Results: 1.The study of hypertension for grade 2 & 3 patients is as follow.(1)Comparison of baseline data before treatment:There is no statistically significant between the treatment group and the control group in terms of their gender, age, duration, family history, smoking history, drinking history, blood pressure, hypertensive symptom scale,SF-36 scale, andbody mass index(P>0.05).(2)Immediate antihypertensive effect in the treatment group: There is statistically significant in SBP and DBP after 15 minutes of treatment(P<0.05).And the statistically significant still remain in 30 th min and 60 th min blood pressure measurement interval(P<0.05).(3)Comparison between groups: for the treatment group and control group, there is statistical significance for the scores of SBP,hypertension symptom scale and SF-36 scale(aspect of role emotional)at the 4th,8th week and the 4th week after treatment.(P<0.05).There is no statistical significance in the scores of DBP,body mass index and SF-36 scale in addition to role emotional function of other dimensions.(4)Comparison between groups:(1)SBP: In treatment group,SBP showed statistical significance from 4 weeks treatment(P<0.05);In control group,SBP showed no statistical significance after 8 weeks treatment and within the 4 weeks follow-up period(P>0.05).(2)DBP: In treatment group,DBP showed statistical significance from the 8 weeks treatment(P<0.05);In control group,SBP showed no statistical significance after 8 weeks treatment and within the 4weeks follow-up period(P>0.05).(3)Scale of Hypertension TCM Symptom:In treatment group,Score of TCM Symptom showed statistical significance from 4 weeks treatment(P<0.05).In control group,Score of TCM Symptom showed statistical significance from 8 weeks treatment(P<0.05).(4)SF-36 Scale: Score of SF-36 scale showed statistical significance only in Role-Emotional part for 8 weeks treatment(P<0.05),the other parts showed no statistical significance during the treatment(P>0.05).(5)Body Mass Index: there is no statistical significance between two groups before treatment. After the treatment,There is still no statistical significance between these two groups(P>0.05).2.Comparison between hypertension patients in grade 2&3 and grade 1 &prehypertension.(1)SBP: patients in grade 2,3 had a better decrease in SBP(P <0.05)than patients with grade1 and prehypertension after 4weeks' treatment, and the trend continued until the 4th week of follow-up.(2)DBP:There is no significant decrease(P>0.05)between two groups during 8 weeks' treatment and 4 weeks' follow-up.Conclusion:1.Stimulation at channal-skin region of hand and foot combined with Conventional antihypertensive drugs has a better effect in improving the symptoms than conventional antihypertensive drugs only. And it also can improve the emotional function of the patients.2.Stimulation at channal-skin region of hand and foot combined with Conventional antihypertensive drugs has a larger decrease in SBP for patients in grade 2,3 than patients with grade 1 and prehypertension.3.Stimulation at channal-skin region of hand and foot can reduce blood pressure immediately. The Immediate antihypertensive effect appears at 15 minutes,30 minutes and 60 minutes after first treatment.
